Cannot move outside Area Map

Please help. Probably doing something stupid here.
Just left Candlekeep with my starter party of 2. I am blocked from traveling outside the area shown on the Area Map.
The Area Map shows the area or the assassination of my mentor and will not move!
Is there an unlock operation or something?
Please help. I'm only minutes into the game and stuck in this area.

It sounds like you went back the way you came. To unlock a new area in BG, you need to exit the map in the direction you want to unlock it. For example, move East to unlock the areas to the East.

Go to the edge of the screen and mouseover the edge. The icon should change to a little wheel thing. Click and you should be able to exit.

Ideally you want to do this on all four sides of the area as this will unlock possible travel routes in each direction.

Thanks for your comment. To clarify,
When moving east, I come to a sudden stop at the edge of the screen and the scene will not scroll any further. If i now switch to Area Map I see that my party is right on the east edge of the map. I can cannot go or see any further.

Should have said; iPad Air, tried deleting app and downloading again with no effect.

So you are right at the eastern edge of the area on the area map? Try the mouseover thing. Areas are only so large.

Around 1:40 - 1:45 shows how he transitions areas. Not sure if this is your issue?

Update and possibly a solution. On the world map I taped on a structure to my East and fast-traveled there, told it took 8 hours.
I thought i had to walk places... looks like I dont in this incarnation of the game

Confirmed. At least on the iPad, you travel to the appropriate edge of the world map and an available location on the world map becomes available, tap this location to fast-travel to it.
No walking around mapping.

@decado in one of my first runs I went directly to Nashkel, because it was going to be an eeeeeeeevvvvvviiiiiil run, so I went with Monty and Xzar (aka the man with the best soundset this side the river) to Nashkel in a rush.
@SpringSnowman I also play in iPad and transitioning areas is a real pain, good luck you're in early game, then it will take ages to load, save and travel with that same run, unless you edit the save, of course! And, one tip, Custom Portraits won't work because the screen is too small to let the "Custom" button appear, so if you want Custom Portraits you'll have to override them.
