BG1:EE vs. BG2:EE

It's simple. Which Enhanced Edition game (not the original content) you like more or which one is better in your opinion (New EE NPCs, quests, items, performance etc.).
If you are a fan of both EE series, please make a hard decision and choose one game you prefer more.
Don't vote if you don't like the EE games at all or if you're dissapointed with the EE editions.

I don't like the BG2:EE UI at all. You can find new items only in new areas or quests in BG2:EE. In BG1:EE every barrel or crate has a surprize. BG1:EE has 6 new EE soundsets. In BG1:EE some new class kits were indroduced (Blackguard, Dragon Disciple, Dwarfen Defender etc.). In BG2:EE no new EE soundsets and no new EE kits... I'm a bit dissapointed with the new BG2:EE NPC. And finally, maybe it's just me, but BG2:EE has some performance problems.
You say that there's only 1 new NPC, but there returning new ones still count. Whilst you may not be introduced to an entirely new trio of NPCs (which, frankly is asking a lot) you still get all the extra content that comes with them. The UI, for me, is a massive step up from BG1:EE, and I say that after have made threads on how I don't want them to change the UI because the original BG2 UI is so perfectly beautiful, and I didn't want that to change. I think the new UI still captures that elven beauty, but brings it up to spec with the enhanced resolutions; I'm very impressed with it. I never really cared for the BG1:EE UI, it felt really cold and lifeless.
There may be new soundsets, but I don't really care about those; we still have the original ones they added from BG1:EE (if you fiddle about a bit). The kits carry over, which is great, though I do admit another class kit would've been nice, or even some love for the bard class in the way of an official implementation of the Rogue Rebalancing mod.
Hexxat is the perfect addition. I feel she trumps all the previous NPCs they added in; her writing is brilliant and her voice is great, and doesn't grind on you like the awfulness that is Neera. The new quests feel more fluid, and the area artwork feels like a step up in BG2:EE, also.
And then there's the red button of gloriousness; mass loot.
It's a marketing ploy to deceive a customer. More profit at lower costs.
The NPCs and kits were introduced in BG1:EE, not in BG2EE.
I like the simple things in life.
BG2:EE is better than BG:EE (Banters, additional areas, and so on).
Item-wise :
BG:EE was more interesting (and included needed additiona for serveral weapon times that were lacking a +2 version in Vanilla, like spears)
NPC-Wise :
I guess it's pretty equal : Baeloth (yay Sorc !) is about as cool as Hexxat (Non-kitted thief... bleh) + WIlson (Kensaï-like)
In terms of EEs, I think that more was added to BG1 than BG2, which brought the two closer together, mechanically, and there was more work involved.
But BG:EE doesn't have an autoloot button. I love the autoloot button.
Jaheira, Minsc, Edwin in BG2 were not presented as NEW NPCS, cause they were introduced in BG1. The same situation with the EE NPCs. Whats the difference between Edwin, Minsc and Rasaad, Dorn beeing imported to the second game? It's crystall clear, Rasaad, Dorn, Neera are not new to the realms as Edwin. Minsc, jaheira, Viconia every one of them has new content and quests and banters. Interplay never said that they were NEW NPCS in original BG2. The devs claim about 4 new NPC only to allure new customers. In other words (not very polite though) they are brainwashing new gamers. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, it's all about the money - very simple marketing strategies. Not honest though...
In other words, IMHO they rushed with the release. Not properly worked with the second game + some storyline bugs with the new NPCs. I hope the game will be properly polished with new patches as they did in BG1:EE. I still belive in the devs they could make it better.
to me BG:EE isn't the superior game but i didn't know overhaul were making BG:EE i knew they were going to make BG2:EE
i also don't understand your stance on beamdog brainwashing, misleading or conning people about the new NPCs for bg2ee. they are still new for bg2ee compared to bg2, even if they first appeared in bgee. all that new content had to be added. locations created, dialogue written, more voice over work etc etc
i imagine the cost to write them into bg2ee in fact probably exceeded that of bgee
it gave you new content in pretty much every area were as baldurs gate 2 EE realy didn't offer me that much new content, particularly when you take into account the fact that 2 of the new npcs will probably never get used by me.
not to mention bg1EE actualy had a lot of improvements over the vanilla original were as bg2EE feels basicly the same
With that said, I think BG2 is the superior game so naturally I'm enjoying BG2:EE more.
....
what?
Neera, Hexxat, Dorn and mah boy Rasaad and the hidden npc are all new TO BG2. This is like saying adding Yeslick, Eldoth, Kagain, etc. to Shadows of Amn wouldn't be adding anything new. In other words that is an absurd notion.
Otherwise, you would unfairly discredit BG2:EE for the contents brought by the "new" NPCs. Remember that these EEs are enhanced versions of existing games. Different circumstances call for different interpretation. To reiterate, you should construe "new" relative to BG2, not to BG1:EE. It isn't absolute of course - you still have to use reason; they can OPT not include in BG2:EE description other less substantial or obviously would get carried over improvements brought about by BG:EE but not present in BG2 (in other words, it is in reference to BG:EE this time, but not added in description as not to create confusion). Simply put, there's simply nothing wrong in saying there are 4 new NPCs considering the huge new content they bring in. At least that's how I see it.
both games are amazing, but BG:EE exploded more in my opinion
Because of that, a lot of the things added into both games feel sort of BGII-ish in nature, and as such, BGII:EE feels more like a proper game while BG:EE feels like a mod.
That said? I was pleasantly surprised that BG:EE wasn't that bad. The new areas made me angry, because it went against the spirit of BG1's open world exploration where you can go anywhere you want despite what NPCs aren't in your party; but the characters themselves were actually alright. Neera doesn't fit in for beans but whatever. Beyond that, the enhancements were all welcome of course, although I really want my old player models and old spellcasting sounds back.
BGII:EE brings in all of the same enhancements and a few more of course. I have found scarce few new items, which is slightly annoying. They're all tied to the new NPCs of course. Speaking of new NPCs, Dorn went from being genuinely interesting in BG:EE to a flat character with very unclear motivation in BGII:EE: Reaks of fail. Neera is still enjoyable and still doesn't fit in: Reaks of an NPC mod. Hexxat is just a bag of contradictions to try and shoehorn us into being interested: Reaks of an NPC mod. Oh and Rasaad actually fits in, gg Overhaul.
They seriously dropped the ball on the NPCs in BGII:EE. That said, everything they "dropped the ball on" I am essentially free to ignore. The same cannot be said for BG:EE, thus my vote.
That sounds like a really ungrateful opinion, so I'll add this: I'm glad for what they've done. Overhaul has breathed some new life into this game that aged surprisingly well on its own, and it is very much appreciated. Most importantly the game tends to just plain work the vast majority of the time instead of working on this computer and not working on this computer, like the old games. :P I like their enhancements (sans replacing BG1player models and their spellcasting sounds), I don't care much for their additions.
