Using only the EE and 2EE NPCs, which tag along should I bring

I was reading a topic the other day from a couple months ago, trying to determine which PC class would be best running through 2EE with the new NPCs (Dorn, Neera, Rasaad, Hexxat) and many people noted that you'd probably want a true neutral PC, likely druid, or bring along a front line tanker for the group and find a local medic to join you.

Well it got me to thinking, I've never actually played a druid and rarely bring a druid with me. While I am doing a canon party with Jaheria, for the most part I avoid them. Thus I decided that I'd bring a druid, likely an Avenger with me to bring them all together.

The question then becomes, which NPC should I bring along for BGEE to round out the party. We don't have Hexxat, but we have Baeloth instead. That leaves me 2 arcane casters, and 2 melee who are better suited for dealing damage rather than taking it. While being the local healbot is fine, that I means I need a thief of some sort, but that also rules out the fact that I do need someone to get hit on.

Help me Forum-wan Kenobis. You're my only hope!

(Suggesting the possibility of other druid kits is also allowed. I'd considered totemic or shapeshifter, but the thought of a flame striking druidic crusader is nice. Also I considered a Berserker dualed druid, but I feel like I'd be cheating myself some here.

Does multiclass Cleric/Thief work? Or do you want 6 characters in your party?

Also - what did you mean here?

@Zalson

While I could be a cleric/thief and I've heard good things about one, I really wanted to druid up this run, ideally as a single class. I'm trying to experience things that I haven't before.

It means that if I want to use the same character through BGEE and BG2EE I need to do one of the following:

Play a healbot type class (cleric or druid) and bring someone along in BGEE who can do the thieving stuff as well as having a decent armor class and health pool to absorb the hits coming through while the crew takes them down. Ideally I'd like to use NPCs already in game, just to see if they have any banters. I've seen most of Viconia's banter with Rasaad anyway in BGEE.

I guess a True Neutral Cleric/Thief WOULD be the best option here, letting Kagain then Korgan act as the primary meatshield in both games. I'd just rather play a druid is all, which significantly limits my options in BGEE.

Counter-argument to myself: By the time I have to get Baeloth, I could realistically drop Kagain for Baeloth and use the significant amounts of CC at my party's disposal to make Dorn and Rasaad viable in this role.

@Dragonspear

"Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me."

Then I really recommend using a Cleric Fighter dual-class, from cleric to fighter or from fighter to cleric, both are fine.
If you want a Druid I recommend dual-class too, I'd go for a fighter (or Berserker) -> Druid, but I prefer Clerics a lot more since they have level 2 spells (well, useful level 2 spells).
I should take Rasaad too.

@CrevsDaak

First of all:

"There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge, there is no passion, there is serenity. There is no chaos, there is harmony. There is no death, there is the force."

Second of all: I'm already running a dwarven fighter/cleric in my canon run through right now, since I've never run through the saga with the canon party and I like the benefits a dwarven fighter/cleric provides. At least as an Avenger, my level 2 spell slots can be devoted heavily to web, freeing up my mages to cast something else =)

you are missing one better than the average npc

Which one?

@Dragonspear I thought I could never met someone with enough knowledge to reply to the Sith Code, since I am part of One Sith, no one could cross in my way!! Still, my favorite characters are Obi-Wan Kenobi AND Darth Bane, other Sith Lords were also much powerful, but they didn't realized were the power is, they got stuck in being immortals, poor guys, they didn't realized asking Ravel to strip away the mortalities was waaaaaaay easier, and better for them, because they always want MDK (murder, Death, KILL!!).

@CrevsDaak

I actually share a very similar personality with how Luke Skywalker is portrayed and I tend to enjoy playing paladin/knight types. The first time I beat the entire BG saga was with a Cavalier. That said one day I might make a kensage just as another more modern jedi idea. But alas, that is for another topic.

And yes I'm looking for a 6th party member people to join our fine enhanced fellows.

@Dragonspear you always create another PC by starting in multiplayer and moving the save. Do you knew that in a bunch of comics
Luke turns to the Dark Side to destroy the second Palpatine? There he met Mara Jade I think.
Also, my first PC was a T/M, and my first character named Crevs Daak was a Jedi in KotOR2, who was immensely good, but I liked the Dark Side of that game much better, it was actually easier because of one of the abilities "Force Crush" I think it was, that dealt 160-210 no-save physical damage at one target.
I think my personalty is like a CE/CN, and I'm a true Sith or maybe a Bounty Hunter who wields a Lightsaber and uses the force uncaringly.

If you take the 4 new NPCs, you have Dorn and Rasaad as frontliners, Hexxat as thief and Neera as mage. You'd only need a thief in BG1, there are enough; so playing as Druid in both shouldn't be a problem. In BG2, you could either be pure Druid and take Anomen as tank, or you play Cleric/Fighter and take Cernd (though, it's still Cernd... and not an Avenger).

BG1:
Dorn
Neera
Rasaad
Baeloth
any thief (I'd take Safana since she's neutral)
Druid PC

BG2:
Dorn
Neera
Hexxat
Rasaad
Druid PC
Anomen

@KidCarnival

Anomen and Dorn don't play nice together FYI
• KidCarnivalKidCarnival Member Posts: 3,747
Oh right. Well, then play a Fighter/Cleric and take Cernd. Could always EEkeep him to Avenger if it's about playing the kit. In BG1, do the same with Faldorn (the kit suits her well anyway).

I say forget the cleric, boot Anomen and take another mage or half mage.
• DragonspearDragonspear Member Posts: 1,838
@Nano

Considering Haer'dalis for the group......but I've never run with Jan Jansen either.

@Kidcarnival

Considering Korgan as well. He'll be using weapon proficiency (IIRC he's axe, hammer, twf) that no one else does in the group. Still debating, especially since right now, no one in the group really uses flails......then again I do have Dorn that I could have use it. Seems like it would fit him rather nicely =)

If you've never run with Jan, then that's your answer... He's hilarious. Ok, there's class conflict with Hexxat, but you could split their skills to give you maximum coverage (maybe H for sneaking, traps & S20 backstabs, and J for dungeon crawling...).
Also gives Neera some backup arcane, freeing charname to do whatever the hell she wants.

edit: just grammar-policing

@Abacus

Also would allow me to quickly max someone's detect illusion to free up more true sight spells etc
• abacusabacus Member Posts: 1,307
@Dragonspear
True, that's a skill I always end up neglecting with (unusually) just one thief and finite points to spend.. Would also sync nicely with Jan.

@DragonSpear He's bearly noticeable. (easter egg)

@CrevsDaak He didn't meet Mara Jade there! He met her in the Thrawn Trilogy of books, which are considered the best Star Wars novels out there (I agree, they are cool). However, the comics that you mentioned are widely panned as the worst star wars story so DON'T read them, haha.
• CrevsDaakCrevsDaak Member Posts: 7,155
@booinyoureyes it is the first time they met, but as enemies in that time, the comics I've mentioned happen before those novels, in approximated 10 A.B.Y, and, yeah, Mara kills Luke's clone, thinking it was the real Luke, while Luke kills the second Palpatine, then Han shots to the third Palpatine, killing him.
• booinyoureyesbooinyoureyes Member Posts: 6,164
@CrevsDaak I believe you are thinking of another character.
Look at the end of this article regarding the comic

• CrevsDaakCrevsDaak Member Posts: 7,155
@booinyoureyes yeah, I saw that article before, just I was thinking of a different character, it is a long time since I don't read about the New Republic, and I have to get some books also.
I think I made a mistake with the books you've mentioned and those comics :P
• booinyoureyesbooinyoureyes Member Posts: 6,164
its an easy mistake to make, because the books referenced those comics. The entire extended universe is confusing haha. I kinda hate how none of the characters got to enjoy defeating the empire and live happily ever after :(

I'm in a similar dilemma to @dragonspear except that I'm at the start of TOB. My CHARNAME is a druid (with a few levels of Fighter because I like heavy armour) and I'm sticking with Hexxat, Rasaad, Neera and Dorn. During SoA:EE, I used a few different people as my sixth - Jaheira, Wilson, mostly Viconia. I came into TOB with Viconia, but I'd love to try someone else as I had Viconia with me the one other time I played TOB back in the day, and I feel I can now get by without her as CHARNAME has learned Mass Raise Dead and I can use Dorn for the useful lower-level cleric spells like Lesser Restoration and Chant. Suggestions greatly appreciated; I really just want someone who has an interesting TOB plotline or some quality interaction with the new NPCs.

This thread has made me infinitely happy that I neither know nor wish to know anything of the Star Wars plot after the original trilogy =/

Also none of it happened now anyway, because Disney.
