Vampires give no XP?

I distinctly remember bashing a vampire until it fled into its gaseous form netted a few K of XP (most noteably in Chataeu Irenicus). This has been removed in the EE versions?

    They still give exp.

The only explanation I can come up with is that something else dealt the killing blow.

It appears some do and some don't. Striking down the vampire gave no XP, neither did Lassel when defending Mook at the docks. However a random vampire encounter did.

Sometimes they transform into a bat (that's different from the gaseous form), which doesn't give xp.

If you don't kill them fast enough after a certain amount of HP is taken from them, they turn in bat form and flee, which means you don't receive XP for that cos you didn't killed them in fact.

I have witnessed the same behavior at the Bridge area. And the vampires were definitely in gaseous form - but no XP.

I kill vampires fast. They were in gaseous form for sure. I'll screenshot the next instance.

What kamuizin describes is correct, except that the vampire does not turn into a bat but rather a gaseous form.

When they try to escape, you will see a blue-white swirly visual effect accompanied by a sound effect and a few seconds later they'll be gone. If you can deal enough damage before then they'll die and you will be awarded xp. This is how it worked in the original Shadows of Amn.

What you want to look for is the message "Vampire - Death", followed by an xp reward. To avoid a loss of experience points, I usually have my mages ready with a quick-firing damage-dealing spell, preferably a flame arrow on a mage with the Robe of Vecna.

    Good hunting! :)

    Kinda makes sense.

It's odd, I've never had this happen before so to have it happen two or three times in a row seems off. I'll fire up a test run sometime tomorrow and see if I can re-produce and verify.

If the NPCs are still alive and get the killing blow, I'm pretty sure that won't give you the XP for the kill.
