High level dragon disciple play

Anyone play a dd in bg2/tob and care to shed light on the pros/cons of it? I'm thinking of making one.

In a 5-6 player party you wont really feel the negative side (-1 spell per level); they are just as powerful spellcasters as a plain Sorcerer but with more HP and Fire res/immunity, Fire breath quickly becomes inferior to other nukes but it can be still useful.
A solo DD probably misses more the lost spells.

Its like my 5th character but the first one I went far into with. Iam level 17 now I believe (2.5 mil exp). I think it is the best arcane caster in the game.
-First, it seems to me that arcane magic is seriously overpowered at higher levels and fun
-sorcerer magic is alot better than specialists mages. Why? because you like never need to switch spellls anyway. 5 spells from every level is more than enough (a summoning spelll every 2 levels of arcane magic and the standardt evocation/area of effect spells here and there and you are still left with alot of debuffing/fun spells to pick from). For example, my Edwin hardly every changes his spells, so why not just do a sorcerer type of magic? Besides, the higher level
-why dragon deisciple and not sorcerer? Because as a dragon disciple you already can cast much more than you need. The extra armor/hit points is what makes dragon disciple a little better and fun
-whose the best tank in my party? Nope, not korgan. It is my dragon disciple. With -8 base armor with cloak and a ring and stuff and like 100 hp and the ability to cast a defensive spell in every level, i send my guy to the front line every time with a dagger bcuz he will never die with even a simple mirror image and stoneskin except to magic. he can probably tank an adamite golem for like hours without using potions.
-again, the only advantage sorcerer has is 1 extra cast per level, which in my game would not help at all because Iam already overflown with spells and i just got my lvl 8 spells. There are also tons of items which increase spell count.

ive extensively played arcane magic chars and I have to say sorcerer/dragon disciple magic is that much better.

and whoever said that sorcerer is the best class for solo insane difficulty was probably right, except that a dragon disciple may be even better. Your fire breath abilities are a total waste thou.

iam also testing out a duel kensai/mage because people say its best but its been pretty boring so far because its such a late started (you need 2.5 million exp)

    hope that helped

Well solo sorcerer you already need to abuse wish rest to win so I would guess that solo dragon disciple you would have issues if wish failed since it's one less cast.

You have to also abuse things like chain contingency for instant cast and other mechanics that seem cheesy...

DD is just like a standard sorc really with some trade offs. Both are going to be quite godly (as would be standard mages) once they reach get their HLAs.
