Multiplayer between steam & beamdog?

First, a confession. I vaguely knew about BG:EE, but wasn't following it, and didn't particularly see the point in getting it. Then I saw it for sale on steam for $5, and grabbed it anyway. Yes, I know, I'm the lowest of the low, and deserve only fire and death.
Now being much wiser, I will probably get BG2:EE through beamdog at some point. This is made harder by the fact that it is currently $20 on beamdog but $16.75 on steam, while BG1:EE is $15 on beamdog but $10 on steam. Also I already have the beta test version of BG2:EE, so I'm not feeling much pressure to buy. Never fear, I shall get it through beamdog in pennance for my earlier sins.
None of this was the point. I would like to get a second version of BG1:EE so I can play multiplayer with my daughter. Can I get the beamdog version, and will it work with the steam version?

I too "accidentally" bought BG EE from Steam during a sale, and then pre-ordered BG 2 EE from Beamdog to atone for my sins, even though I don't plan to play for a while yet.
Anyways I've been playing a great BG EE Multiplayer game with a few other forumites, and as far as I'm aware, I am the only one who has the Steam version. BG EE is not the most stable game for multiplayer, but Steam/Beamdog compatibility does not appear to be problem.
I'm afraid I decided I 'just want this to work', and the steam release seems to lag a couple of versions behind the beamdog release, so to ensure compatibility I bought another copy on steam. Plus I didn't have to download it all again, which would have taken 6 hours out here on the arse end of the internet.
The benefits of getting BG:EE for multiplayer are obvious. I find getting two identical versions of the original BG2 with patches & mods etc, to be a painful undertaking. BG1 would be even worse, setting up two separate trilogies or two easytutus is probably a day-long undertaking.
