Help: how to optimize EE for older graphics card?

So my Old Faithful graphics card, 8800gts, died on me a few days ago. :( I've been able to scrounge up an even older card just to keep my PC running, but I really want to keep playing and getting a fancy new card is.. difficult for me at the moment.

Does anyone have any tips or tweaks I could try to make the game(s) playable until I can get a new card? I'm running Win7 on an ancient ATI X300 right now and gameplay is like a badly animated stop-motion flick even when not casting spells. If nothing to tweak, what is an acceptable but cheap card I could get? Thank in advance!

I assume you have the latest drivers for the ATI X300?

Yep, from the AMD website. The game's menu wasn't even readable without them, which was an OpenGL issue i think.

Anyone know if the HD5450 is suitable?
