Magic Resistance Cleric Spell as an offensive option?

So, whilst perusing the spellbook, I notice that this 5th Circle Priest spell 'sets' magic resistance to 2%/level to a max of 40%... Are there any circumstances where this could be used to gimp a particularly tough enemy?
Eg: You gain access to the spell at level 9, so there must be enemies who have >18% MR.

    Interesting idea, but to actually connect with the spell (im guessing here) you would first need to lower the enemies MR with lower resistance etc. at which point you wouldn't gain much of a benefit since the monsters MR is thus already lowered.

    The spells designed to lower resistance of an enemy seem much more efficient, since they are ranged and have lower casting times. The spell has a casting time of one round and hand to hand range, which would be very difficult to finish the cast without interruption.

    @ReadingRambo

    I know it allows no save, and thought that as an intended buff, the target's MR wouldn't affect it? Presumably you could cast it on a friendly Wizard Slayer? (I know that example would be redundant, but still..)

    Also, I hadn't spotted the casting time/interruption issue...

    It's useful on dragons, especially on the ones that start nonhostile where you can cast without fear of interruption.

    So for instance if (for some reason) you wanted to take down Viconia (65% MR), a Level 9 Mage casting Lower Resistance would reduce her to 46%, whilst a Level 9 Cleric would drop her straight to 18%.

    Yes it's hugely situational, but potentially handy in a fix. (Dragons is a great shout btw @nano)

    I have never tried it but in the 'old days' I have heard of people abusing it by dual-classing from cleric to a mage and putting Magic Resistance in a spell trigger together with Lower Resistance and Breach. Players would dual-class rather early to keep their casting level low for maximum effect of the magic resistance spell. The problem there was that it still required touch range to connect, but you would immediately wipe out all magic resistance and physical protections. Useful on any magic resistant foe that is not immune to level 5 spells.

    Yeah old days,..
    Cleric/Mage Magic Resistance + Lower Resistance + Pain (target only 1-4 HP)
    -> find the funniest way to kill the sucker with a lev. 1 Spell,..

    Oh wow, I stand corrected. And hadn't thought of spell triggers to counter cast time. Awesome

    Those iron/adamantine golems require +3 weapons to hit. This spell is handy when you lower their MR from 100% to ~20%, and finish it off with one lower resistance spell. Then spam magic missile until it dies.

    Useful for golems, Magic Resistance + Slay living on my Ranger/Cleric is a pretty consistent combination
