do you recruit NPCs for personal quests?

I was thinking of doing this. I am done everything else, so if not I am left to go do chapter 3 and keep going to the end. No liches or dragons (well there is the shadow dragon, but saving that for rescuing love interest) or quests left other than these. However, I was wondering first of all if they are worth it and secondly how long it will take doing this or if there is any way to speed up the triggers so I don't just wait around a year game time getting each of the NPCs to give me their quest. I need to kick a member for Imoen soon anyway so I thought now might be a good time to do this.
