How Does Proficiency's Work With Dual Classes?

I notice in shadowkeeper that there is 1st class and 2nd class proficiency slots. I would like to know how that works.

I think i know, but i am unsure, any clarification would be appreciated. I think it goes something like...

For example, say i want to be a Cleric/Fighter, and i start with a Cleric as my first class,

I become proficient (one slot) in War Hammers, and Two Weapon Style

Then i dual class to fighter, i lose the proficiencies gained in cleric...Now, as a fighter, i get "Mastery" in War Hammers, and "Specialized" in Two Weapon Style...Then when i finally reach the xp of my original Cleric, both are combined, thus: Grand Mastery in War Hammers, and Mastery in Two Weapon Style...

Is that how it works? or does it work differently? Thanks.

That is not how it works. If you put proficiency points in the same weapon *before* you reactivate the class then you effectively lose the lowest set of points. So in your example, when you exceed your cleric levels as a fighter you would have Mastery in warhammers and Specialised in 2-weapon style, overwriting the original proficiencies.

If you wait until the first class is reactivated then you can add further points normally.

Objectively though I'm not sure why you'd dual class from Cleric to Fighter. The other way around makes quite a bit more sense.

Thanks for the info, i wasn't sure how it worked...And yea, kind of a weird example...Although i suppose Cleric to Fighter would have its benefits...You could choose to have a kit in cleric that grants true sight, etc, also you would get Fighter HLA's...Right?

Yes you would. But it's still not a very good combo IMHO :)

Also be careful if you dual into a class that cannot use certain weapons, you lose any proficiency points you've already picked in those weapons (see anomen in game for an example, although there is a reason why)
