Possible Enhanced Treatments

Now that both Baldur's Gate games are rapped up, what will Overhall do with D&D from here? I know this is a stretch, but if Overhall were to do enhanced editions to the rest of the Infinity Engine games, what would they do first? I'm thinking they would do Icewind Dale, since it's share the most in common with Baldur's Gate. Imagine what Icewind Dale II would be like enhanced; they could possibly add cut D&D3 features.

I've always dreamed about making a bg 2 kitted party in icewind dale. It's one if my favorite dungeon crawls. Having a berskerer cleric (of tempus of course), archer, sorcerer etc would be awesome.

Icewind Dale is nice, but I'd rather see an enhanced edition of Planescape: Torment. The original has become almost unplayable on modern systems.

The setting is great, the story is amazing. And who doesn't want to play a game that takes place at the home plane of Haer'Dalis?

IWD:EE is my vote too. Love to see kits in that game for sure.

IWD and Torment. I want both.

I'm with argent77. I haven't actually played it yet but I've heard that it's really well done. And any review site I've seen has Planescape Torment as one of the top two cRPGS of all time, along with Baldur's Gate 2. So I'd love to try an enhanced version of it.

I absolutely love Torments story and characters, but find the combat and customization pretty lacking. Only Nordom can use missile weapons, so combat consisted of everyone else piled around a creature trying to hit it.

IWD is my first choice. But I would pee myself with joy if the Gold Box games were EE'ed.

So for everyone who really wants to see that happen, Gold Box EE....

Torment for me, brilliant game but I couldn't cope with the interface, time is was EE'd!

Planescape could defiantly use an enhanced treatment because of how uncompilable it's becoming on modern machines. I also wouldn't mind if a few new companions and areas came along with it.

    IWD EE will be good.
But as a younger generation,I'm curious and would like to see Gold Box EE.

IWD would be good. While it is possible to slap BG2 engine on top of it, essentially adding the kits and stuff, it would be great to have it by default.

Honestly, while I'd love for an update on the Planescape engine, I'm honestly not sure that I'd want anyone to touch the story.

PS:T with a new engine (the game would look gorgeous with a bigger resolution) and the 3rd edition ruleset from icewind dale ii

stats, skills and feats could be made to affect dialogue outcomes even more; stats already do, some dialogue options could be made dependent on diplomacy and feats
dialogues are already more branched out in ps:t than in the bg series - few new lines would have to be written

there's less combat in torment and it's simpler and more action-y than BG (not much strategy or preparation involved) so by bringing in expanded gameplay mechanics from iwdii it would become much more interesting and varied

on the other hand there'd be no need to add new content, especially not new npc's (content-wise the game is so well rounded, unlike BG or IWD series); just updating the spells to new rules (along with adding the necessary new ones), adding some quests (maybe deepening the faction landscape with obtainable strongholds and stronghold questlines) and maybe a new area or two (maybe not even that) and some additonal loot would be enough.

restoring cut content would be fantastic too (i don't think there's anything important tho), but since it didn't happen with BG, i guess it can't be done.

I suspect art assets for PS:T have also vanished over time, so little in the way of graphical Overhaul would be possible.
  • bob_vengbob_veng Member Posts: 2,308
what kind of graphical overhaul, you mean new animations? would be cool but but nah, unimportant.
  • moody_magemoody_mage Member Posts: 2,054
I mean higher resolution sprites and areas.

You can be sure however that no changes will be made to the core game, much in the way of BGEE I think Overhaul will only be able to add to the game rather than actually rebuild or change it in any way.
  • bob_vengbob_veng Member Posts: 2,308
sprites and objects on the maps are already larger than in other infinity games so it's unnecessary to make them higher res, they won't look too small in higher resolutions the way some do now in BGEE (hence zoom)

I think the Icewind Dale games would be perfect for people who enjoy solo and multiplayer games. But any excuse to play Planescape again would be good.

Although if you could enhance any game, I'd really like to see a remake of Fallout 1 + 2 with high res graphics and more detailed sprites and animations.

Just imagine Icewind Dale with new areas that you can choose to bump in to (or not). Honestly IWD is pretty bare bones but has a lot of lore in its item descriptions, I think adding on to it would be rather fitting.

What I DON'T want is "HERE'S SOME NEW NPCS AND THEIR OWN EXCLUSIVE AREAS" that shit makes me sick to my stomach to be totally blunt. No, I would like new areas that are just out there to be discovered. And sure, go ahead and add some NPCs if you must, although I think Overhaul's NPCs are so far in the mediocre-bad range.

Really? No one wants Pong: Enhanced Edition?

    (Maybe I'm the only one...)

Well, isn't that just Virtua Tennis?

I'm entirely with @atcDave on this one: Having the Gold Box series remade using the Infinity Engine would be absolutely incredible. I'm just speculating, but I would guess that the licensing issues would be far less restrictive than those for Baldur's Gate. Even if new content couldn't be added (which I don't see happening), it would be such a drastic difference in respect to the engine and style that it wouldn't matter very much.

As a close second--and I'm actually going to disagree with you on this one @Quartz--I would like to see an Icewind Dale: EE with NPCs rather than a full six-person party that you create (though it should still give you the option). I definitely agree that new areas would be wonderful, though, particularly if the quality of those in the original can be matched. That game was beautiful...

  • QuartzQuartz Member Posts: 3,853
@Isandir I wouldn't mind Overhaul vomiting out a few more half-baked NPCs, just so long as I am not forced to take them to access new areas.

I for one would pay money to battle Tyranthraxus in this so-called "Infinity Engine". Dark Sun or Ravenloft would be even more exciting, but I won't hold my breath too long...

Considering the trouble they've had with the BG games (bugs, silly contracts, etc.) I think it would be better they did something different. I wouldn't purchase IWD or PST again.

We should probably point out that Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition are by no means 'wrapped up'. ;)
  • bob_vengbob_veng Member Posts: 2,308
Great. Add a potion case to adventurer's mart.

I should probably point out that I'm just looking for an excuse to play Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale again :)
