resizing portraits

Some of my portraits scrunch up when I edit the size rather than become smaller all around. What to do?

    Resize them manually in photoshop or similar? Not sure what you mean by scrunch up.

    I resize them manually using mspaint. By scrunched I mean some images become compressed.

    Are you making sure to maintain the proportions of the image when you resize it? Otherwise one dimension of the image will generally be altered more than the other, and so the image will look compressed or stretched.
