Your Favourite Party

As the title says. What was that one party, the one that was fun to play, fun to have around and fun to crush your enemies into the ground with?

I honestly found most of the NPCs in BG1 pretty interchangeable overall, so I'll pass on that.

In BG2 though, I had a party consisting of CHARNAME, Imoen, Jan, Keldorn (Who got swapped out Sarevok once I stopped abusing his Dispel Magic and Carsomyr), Aerie and Jaheira, that I just really enjoyed playing with.

The whole Bhaalspawn family dynamic that I got in ToB was especially great. It almost felt like a sitcom. CHARNAME and Aerie the sickeningly sweet sweethearts with a baby strapped to Aerie's back, Imoen the cheerful younger sister, Sarevok the moody older brother, Jan, the crazy uncle who shall no doubt give the BEST BIRTHDAY GIFTS EVER and Jaheira, the only one apart from Sarevok with a lick of common sense.

My only regret was a lack of Minsc or Valygar, but alas, Jan Jansen and his army of trained monkeys is not to be denied.

It was Female Undead Hunter, Imoen/Yoshimo/Imoen, Minsc, Boo, Anomen (romance) , Keldorn and Nalia-->Sarevok

but now it may be Male Half-Elf Blade, Neera (romance), Imoen/Yoshimo/Imoen, Minsc, Boo, Jaheira and Anomen-->Sarevok

the most interesting for me though is my personal "canon" party: charname, Imoen/Yoshimo/Imoen, Minsc, Boo, Jaheira (romance), either Aerie (second possible romance) or Xan as a sorcerer from the mods and finally a rotating cast of NPCs for quests eventually to be a permanent spot for redeemed Sarevok in TOB

In BG1 I had a lot of fun with Charname/Imoen/Viconia/Coran/Kivan. Kivan and Coran are cool because they're both Chaotic Good archers but totally different in personality. Kivan hates Viconia and Coran just wants to get in her pants, Kivan is all about revenge and brooding in the corner while Coran loves adventure and attention. Kivan is always using his Charm Animal on birds and making them poop on Viconia (though he claims they're random attacks). Coran keeps trying to stealth into Viconia's room "accidentally" while she's changing, usually to find that she's left a stack of glyphs of warding inside the door. And Imoen has a thing for elven archers and keeps trying to catch Coran (or Kivan)'s eye but neither of them are interested.

For BG2, I like Charname/Yoshimoen/Jan, they're just a fun trio to have around. It's hard to pick three others to go with them, because everyone is great, but I'm a big fan of Viconia/Jaheira/Aerie. So much potential for drama... and they're all clerics so they're always competing to be the one to heal Charname. I imagine he starts sneaking off and drinking potions of healing to avoid all the fights over who gets to cure him this time.

I'm a big fan of Mazzy/Korgan/Valygar too. It's mostly about Mazzy but you also get to hear Valygar call Imoen a chipmunk with a sugar high and a death wish xD

in BG2 my favorite characters were Aerie, Viconia, Minsc, Keldorn, and Yoshimo. Having them all together though wasn't the wisest decision and ever since knowing what eventually becomes of Yoshimo and my general disdain for Imoen (she just annoys me for some reason) I tend to avoid him. I really want to try Jan and Mazzy though as they seem like lots of fun.

Or better yet would be them realizing that Charname is actually a loser sat behind a scrying device all day manipulating them into fighting, then teaming up to get rid of him. :D

I guess my favorite party is also my personal canon party. Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Minsc and Dynaheir in BG1. Imoen/Yoshimo, Jaheira, Minsc, Aerie and Sarevok in BG2. They're all well realized characters with lots of interesting relationships with each other. Jaheira the mother figure, Imoen and Aerie like sisters with one hard working, dedicated and constantly striving to be better, and the other being Imoen. And Minsc is Minsc.

I have to admit a certain fondness for BG1 and playing a good aligned, decent charisma female elf with the BG1NPC project installed and then taking Xan, Ajantis, and Coran along for the snippy fight scenes. Add Gavin and either Garrick or Kivan as well (both who seem somewhat flirtatious with female CHARNAME) and you have your own harem. Guys get to do that in BG2 pretty easily (Viconia, Jaheria, Aerie, Neera, Dorn), but for gals you have to rely on mods that don't always have conflicts due to the Anomen/Dorn conflict.

When I'm not playing Bachelorette, I sometimes like the canon party. Imoen, Khalid, Jaheria, Dyna, Minsc is fairly well balanced. Evil route, I tend to go Monty, Xzar, Edwin, Shar-Teel, with the last spot up for grabs (sometimes I grab Xan or Coran (CN) for the romance, sometimes Eldoth and then substitute Shar-Teel with Skie, more and more often I'm taking Dorn). I sometimes do an early Imoen duel to mage, then take her, Ajantis, Rasaad, Yeslick, and Alora, though Yeslick and Alora take a while to get for a 'righteousness party' (better served by Dyna and Minsc instead of Imoen and Alora, but that would leave me with a thief only protagonist choice).

In BG2, I really like Yoshimo, which is just as well as I feel sort of obligated to bring Imoen along (though I've been known to dump her as soon as we get out of the Underdark, or at least as soon as we get her soul taken care of). I tend to adore the Mazzy/Valygar pairing, because they're just so awkward. I play with a lot of modded characters, too. I find myself bring Aerie or Anomen along a lot, as I find both of them quite powerful for gooders. I don't often take Minsc and Jaheria. Played with them so many times now, I practically have their lines memorized.

Then there's the standard Viconia, Krogan, Edwin, Dorn, Hexxet party of evil. Of course, who to kick for brother in ToB is always an issue (usually ends up being Krogan, for me).

oh yeah, I love having all the cheerful characters + Xan. Alora, Minsc, Imoen, Garrick, Charname and Xan. It's all sunshine and daisies and grand old adventure with Xan in the middle of it all going "I hate my life..."

    BG1:Kagain+Dorn+Viconia+Edwin+Monty
    BG2:Korgan+Dorn+Viconia+Edwin+Jan
I tend to enjoy the evil npcs a lot more because as always goodies are far too limiting and would constantly complain as soon as you didn't go around sacrificing yourself for a random nancy, evil guys on the other hand offer a lot more freedom. Jan is just too awesome not to have. Poor Hexxat just doesn't offer anything to me that Jan already doesn't do better. I'd trade both Jan and Edwin for Xzar and Monty... but they got shafted in the sequel.

@Coutelier somehow I knew who your party would consist of long before you posted, lol. I approve

I'll surprise you next time then. Yeah, actually I've gone off Aerie in the last five minutes. She's blatantly trying to rip off Fluttershy, or Willow in Buffy the Vampire Slayer with her low self esteem and confidence issues, then becoming really powerful. But Willow looks like Imoen, which is confusing, so I hate them all now.

Or If everyone starts liking Aerie, I'll probably go off her and start taking Cernd along instead.

    Charname: Kensai
    ToB Companion
    Jaheira (lover)
    Imoen
    Aerie
    Edwin

By far the most fun party I've ever rolled in the game, with so many combos to choose from and many many different ways to kill an enemy dead.

    BG1:

Charname: Male Dwarf, Fighter/Cleric, Neutral Evil
    Kagain
    Edwin
    Faldorn
    Eldoth
    Skie

Set a new record by gaining all six "evil" Bhaalspawn powers.

    BG2:
    Charname
    Korgan
Viconia (CLUA'ed so she'd romance my Dwarf PC;-))
    Edwin
    Jan Jansen
    Yoshimo -> Imoen -> Sarevok

And of course I left Viccy behind to assume my daddy's throne!

Really enjoying my current run with the evil cannon (it's a lot like canon, but hits harder and is generally more explosive):

    Blade (Female, NE)
    Korgan
    Dorn
    Viconia
    Edwin
    Hexxat (Romance)

As a snippy loud-mouth Blade, picking all the "insult Dorn" dialogues is very funny. However, if I were to do a similar run again, I'd axe Hexxat for Jan... It's not so much a personality thing, I just find basic thief a bit dull to play.

    I'm currently enjoying this one:
CN Jester - an 89 point weakling (10 Str)
    Viconia
    Anomen
    Haer'Dalis
    Jan
    Neera
My typical mainstays are Edwin & Korgan, but I'm trying something different.

Does anyone else wish there were more "paired" NPCs? I know they are unpopular do to party balance and mechanics, but I like the roleplaying aspect.
Always wanted a Father-Son/Daughter pair. Like a Male Barbarian father with a Archer Kit daughter (or vice versa). Eventually the father may die or something as part of their quest if people don't like needing two NPCs to enjoy it.

ive always felt that it would be quite interesting to have a pair of siblings as npcs

i don't have a favourite party but for my full play through I used two which I really liked

    In bg1EE

    PC bard
    Neera
    Imoen dualed to mage
    jahera
