backstab isn't adding up!

would there be a reason for a backstab to do very very little damage, like a bad roll or something like that?

Article A: Triple backstab for 2 damage

Article 2: Observe the damage range on the inventory screen

Article D: Lowly hobgoblin takes 1 damage from backstab

No mods and as far as I'm aware the Iron Throne haven't been bolstering their ranks with super guards/hobgoblins

That's why tired and sleepless soldiers lose battles. You are suffering extreme fatigue penalties methinks. Try sleeping (rest) and attack again.

i didn't think fatigue actually had that much of an effect. those are insane penalties! like -10 to damage rolls!

Yeah it normally has small penalties but it quickly adds up. And fatigue penalties do not show up in game menus it is really deceiving. Your main char must have been awake for more than a week, I think. Or use haste spell a lot.

even severe fatigue wouldn't he at least be doing 3 damage?

Maybe it takes off damage after applying the backstab multiplier? Still a lot of damage reduction though.

Also, Montaron in the same party as an assassin. He might get jealous!

Fatigue get you a -1 penalty to damage rolls the moment you're tired and then a cumulative -1 each hour after that. I think you're awake for 3 days or something.

@the_spyder Very good post, i'd like to see this implemented.

I'd think that implementation of the first half would be relatively easy. Merely add a separate algorithm that triggers when the travel script fires. Within it, if you choose to rest, add the random encounter check and then set the 'rested' variable to zero (or whatever the designation) upon loading the new area. Otherwise simply act as normal.

Seriously though, if you travel from half way through Cloakwood back to the friendly arm inn, its like 2 days or something ridiculous. Haven't they ever heard of tents?
