Have they fixed multiplayer yet for BG2?

I thought the last response I had read said that beamdog was going to start working on their multiplayer since right now it runs very poorly. Anyone have any news on that front?

It works awesome. Maybe you had low connection, that causes it to be MUCH slower.

No it really doesn't. I have an awesome connection as do all my friends that attempt to join my multiplayer games. The server runs like crap. Bugs when there is cutscenes, bugs when trying to load a game, bugs in inventory management. Do you want me to go on?

    I know it is buggy.

So then your previous comment was just you trolling? Good job.

No, I was saying that it works well, but it has some bugs, not quite much.
And I always do a good job, since I'm the ultra uncaring Lord of Chaos that will nevermore read this.

I'd expect alot better responses from someone with the amount of posts you have. Absolutely useless contribution..

OT: After alot of experimenting, the group im playing with has finally managed to get stable MP-games going. The only time we ever crash now are during chapter transitions.

The key was simply to have every single player of our group open all necessary ports for BG2, aswell as running an TCP game instead of the beamdog client. If you alt+tab during the game it has a chance of going unstable and crashing, so it's adviced not to.

I'm currently on a playthrough with one of my friend. We are having a blast. And we use the online matchmaking (that i didnt even know existed, but it works flawlessly for us, never failed us and so easy to use) We're getting close to chapter 6.

Other cool things i can think of:

Alt-tabbing never caused a crash, and i use it a lot
no need to forward ports, or use tcp
never seen an inventory management bug, nor has my friend

The only annoyances for us are this:

Game can't transition between chapters.. the game hangs until my friend quits, then instantly proceeds to changing chapter, and my friend need to rejoin once the cutscene ends
We can check other's inventory and take items but not check descriptions from it, nor change equipement
Using the auto-loot feature, we can sometimes duplicate items on the grounds (which is kinda nice :))

So overall, i'd say the playthrough is pretty solid now, no need to wait for more updates unless theres a specific compatibility problem with your system and i think my multiplayer playthrough is going smoother than it did with the first BG:EE. Some MINOR annoyances but very enjoyable.

I've come to realize the biggest challenge in playing multiplayer in BG is not how buggy the game is, it's cooperating with your partner.. Sometimes it gets frustrating when your friend keeps pausing everytime you're ready to go, or unpausing in a tight spot while you're browsing your spells, or when you want to check another area but need a full party to venture forth and your partner is doing something else and whatnot, or when someone starts discussions while the other one was looting chests and keep getting interrupted... well it's still a lot of fun but everyone needs to be patient and communicate their intent.

Edit: More on topic to your original question, they said once the game is launched on every platform they'll work on multiplayer, that's true. But i think we're still waiting on a Android release before that happens. I can't wait to see what they'll do with it. They didn't talk much about it yet. First things first.

@Cleave - For clarification. The issues only exist when trying to play with 3 people or more. Playing with another friend works flawlessly for pretty much everyone I've come across. Sorry if that wasnt clear in my earlier post.

For more than 2 players, use Hamachi for IP connection. That works fine. Only issue my group has is the dream sequences.

My biggest pet peeve with multiplayer is the 99% chance that my friend will DC whenever there is a cut scene, and I have to talk to him over the headset, describing what is going on. Ruins the immersion for both of us :P

Edit: For the record I am only playing with one other person, so only 2 players.

Oh sorry Deio, since i never tried with more than 2 players i didn't even know there was still problems.

Hey guys, minus the tool Crev above, thank you for your input. I will try the Hamachi since I want to play with at least 4 friends. When there are only two of us I still run into problems with trying to save and load sometimes. I can't wait till they release it on Android and get to some bug fixin! Thank you again for the suggestions and the updates.

I purchased this game some time ago to play with my boss on his iPad. Never got the chance since it'd never work. Gave up on it and got distracted by other games. Randomly saw there was an update a few days ago and read the patch notes. I rejoiced! Got a long time friend and a BG virgin to get EE with the hopes it will work as easy as Gamespy made it.

I'm getting the feeling that won't be the case?

Little vexing but let's hope all goes well. Worst case I'm reinstalling my original versions and going on the hunt.

I just started a game with a friend and the game runs fine, except on Chapter changes and some random times when there is a dialogue initiated towards my friend (I am the host). In these occasions the game freezes and the only way to unfreeze it, is to tell my friend to leave the game and enter again after the game unfreezes.
