The crtl + i Command

For all my years of playing BG I remain a total amateur with the programming elements of the game (and, indeed, of every game). So without blowing my query out of proportion into a lengthy dissertation, how does crtl + i work? I ask because I tend to hold it down, and the feedback/text bar then scrolls through a myriad of unintelligible commands. Sometimes my characters turn towards one another and utter one of their generic command acknowledgement phrases but don't actually initiate a dialogue with anybody. Any information that might help me understand how the command works would be really appreciated, if not just out of interest :)

CTRL + I basically goes through every banter in the game seeing if it can trigger (and often it can't, due to you not having the required members or the banter being run before). Those unintelligble commands are the 'names' of various banters. If there are still banters available to your party, CTRL+I'ing forever will eventually find them, but it can take a long time as it's going through alllll those banters.

CTRL+I performs two different actions. It can be used to trigger banters between your party members. At the same time it selects an animation sequence that can be played back with CTRL+L. The name of the animation sequence is displayed in the text bar.

I think I might have fudged up my game a little by doing this too much. I never got any Neera banters with Anomen that I hear so much about, but as soon as I finished SoA and went to ToB, I got two of those in a row with ctrl-i.
I think I also maybe screwed something up by using ctrl-i, as Neera and Minsc had a banter about her wild surge and Boo about 30 times over the course of my play-through.

I don't think CTRL+I can screw up the game. Banters will only be triggered if their conditions are met. Those banters would have been triggered eventually even without the shortcut. I'm not sure though if CTRL+I takes timing conditions into account.

Actually I think it might be able to screw up your banters because you might trigger a one time banter that fails due to conditions but then when you meet the conditions it can't trigger any more because it's flagged as done?

@booinyoureyes that conversation about Pink Boo between Neera and Minsc loops because of a bug.

When all banters are triggered, the last banter between any 2 npc gets repeated if you cltr+i.
