Please the greatsword is cool n all but I would love to see a more bigger option of giant weapons to choose from such as two-handed axes/hammers, two-bladed swords/axes, spiked chains, etc.

Anyone want to name weapons they would like to see in-game?

I'd love two handed axes, though last time I saw this (IWD?) I think they just used the halberd animation. I don't think we'll be seeing any new weapons as I don't think they have the rights/resources to produce new animations.

I'd also really like to see spear and shield become useable.

Any weapon that we do not already have an animation for it not viable. Just saying.

Correct. Especially the shield/spear. Spears are treated as two handed weapons that are wielded with the same animations as Quarterstaves/Halberds/Two Handed Swords. The animations would not line up, and would in fact require all new animations (something that won't be happening because all of the original assets are lost).

Well this is the enhanced edition so maybe we will be seeing some different animations. And an axe can be made with totally different animations and looks too. They do not look like halberds....

... No. We won't. Beamdog specifically mentioned that they're not making new art assets for the in-game stuff, because it would look too out-of-place when compared to everything else.

Well that just sucks. How hard is it to draw a weapon for baldur's gate and implement it into the game I wonder?

I'm sure they'll do some new weapons with unique inventory pictures. So they do make art assets but they wont make any new animations, because that simply wouldn't be worth the effort.

    One word: Lawyers.
Everything DnD-related is pretty well plagued by lawyers, and this game is no exception.
Beamdog got the rights to this series but it's pretty freakin' limited. Still I salute them wholeheartedly for managing to get even the super-limited contract they have, probably was a pain in the butt.

On a side note, I would love to see a few new magical weapons in the game, not really new weapon types. Some weapons had plenty of magical weapons, and others felt pretty abandoned. For instance the clerical side of things felt pretty abandoned, the only interesting weapons being Kiel's Morningstar (which was cursed), Hammer of Thunderbolts, and the Staff Mace.
Maybe another sling too. Sling of Seeking would be nice to have in BG1 considering they "fixed" the strength bonus.

Well they do need more magicial items for certain weapon types. The flail, for example only has 3 magical items I believe and they don't even have any +5 weapons for them which is sad really. Two-handed swords I think have a far larger variety by like 12 weapons total I believe which is ALOT!

No, the Flail has a +5 in the form of the Flail of Ages. It's available very, very early in BGII and is upgradeable later on in Throne. But yes, I agree with you. Baldur's Gate needs more unique magical weapons, because it's silly that one gets gimped so badly if they spec into the wrong stuff. Not even how the Katana is balanced, what with its insane stats and rare enchanted versions, but common weapons like Flails and Morningstars and Maces that lack any significant number of magical counterparts.

Weapon animations were just perfect. The pale blue kinda spritual shinning of "Spectral brand +5" was outstanding, for example. I hope good stays good. :)

Tridents and Staff slings would be fun.

Quite frankly I think BG and BG2 already had huge variety of weapon types. Instead of inventing new ones why not actually make the existing ones useful? I can't recall any special halbert in BG 1 for example. There is no point to ever put proficiency points in that. It would be really nice to have at least 3 unique magical versions (with descriptions and special abilities, not just +1) of every single weapon type. They don't have to be that powerful (as powerful as non-unique +2 maximum), they have to be fun.
  • xLegionxxLegionx Member Posts: 197
Well if you look at the flail and dagger they have a very small list of magical items available in that variety, hardly of which I would consider useful. The point is that its not fair when you spec in a weapon type only to not get one of the most powerful weapon types of that type. Every weapon type should atleast have a +5 weapon in its category imo.

How about some sort of weapon that hits multiple enemies...shiruken for instance, might be usefull plus I'd love to see a bunch of kobolds eating dirt after one shot:)
