Dak'kon's Zerth Blade

I have been careful not to un-equip this sword, but I keep losing the extra spells during area transitions - the extra spell slots are just blank. This happened at the end of the planar prison quest and again after the encounter with Neera when she asks you to look for her in the forest.

In BG2 it's an ignored item, an weak and second choice blade to use in fact.
Of course a mod where you could unlock the circles of zerthinon woukd be nice, then I would actually buy the thing...
Although I never had/noticed an issue with area transitions...
It basically does the following :
5-20 damage
+3 THACO
+6 AC
Double 1st level spells
Double 2nd level spells
Very, very worthy of Baldur's Gate II, to be honest
Too bad, the version we get sucks
These are my thoughts on a potential mod:
The blade's power depends on the wielder, it's shaped by the wielder. On it's own it's litterally a lump of metal. This is why it's addition in this form to bg2 is a terrible lore error - it simply can't exist on it's own as an effective weapon.
This is why, in BG2, the katana should start as a completely useless relic (although placeable in the weapons slot).
In order for a character to use it as a weapon, they would first have to form a bond with it (ie "shape" it).
In order to shape the blade the character must learn about this possibility and how to do it, either through some book or from a gith (or not necessarily a gith since they only appear in later chapters)
Therefore, you should be able to interact with the item, similar to Lilarcor and perform these unlocking actions from dialogue.
thus:
***TIER 1***
After a character succeeds in first unlocking the blade it would become usable, but only by the character who unlocked it first.
The blade becomes identical to it's PS:T tier 1 counterpart: katana +1, +1 AC
***TIER 2***
Prerequisites for unlocking this tier are:
- a certain amount of experience (800k, for example)
- a certain wisdom score (14 to *both unlock it and wield it*, for example)
the blade becomes a katana +2, +2 AC
this is also where, in terms of special abilities things start to branch:
- if the character has an arcane casting class (dual/multi included), the blade gives two 1st and one 2nd level bonus spells
- if the character has a rogue class, the blade does +1d4 special ability bonus slashing
- if it's a pure warrior class, the blade gives an additional +1 AC
these are the *almost* the same special abilities from PS:T but they are divided into three variants of the same item (the character isn't githzerai and can't hope to shape the blade as well as dak'kon could)
***TIER 3***
prerequisites:
- 1.5 million xp
- WIS 17
katana +3, +3 AC
other special abilities:
- mage/bard class: doubles 1st and 2nd level spells
- rogue class: +1d3+1 special ability bonus slashing
- pure warrior class: additional +2 AC (+5 AC in total, woot)
***TIER 4***
prerequisites:
- 3.5 million xp
- WIS 19
katana +4, +3 AC
other special abilities:
- mage/bard class: doubles 1st and 2nd level spells *AND* one bonus 3rd & 4th level spell
- rogue class: +2d3 special ability bonus slashing *AND* bleeding (same as corthala family blade)
- pure warrior class: additional +3 AC *AND* stun resistance
***TIER 5***
prerequisites:
- 6.5 million xp
- WIS 20
katana +5, +3 AC, CON +1
other special abilities:
- mage/bard class: doubles 1st and 2nd level spells *AND* one bonus 3rd & 4th level spell *AND* reduce casting time by 1
- rogue class: +2d3 special ability bonus slashing *AND* bleeding *AND* on each hit STR -1
- pure warrior class: additional +3 AC *AND* (!!!) chaotic commands *AND* righteous magic 1/day
First of all, the blade patch should be defined by main char, if it's an mage, the blade evolves with the mage skills, if he is an fighter the blade evolve with fighter skills and therefore on. Even if the Main Char is an priest, the blade can evolve with an line defined by that priest class and would be used by another party member.
Some events fixed in the main quests (including find the blade instead of buy it) would make sure we didn't lose any event that upgrade the blade.
The Equalizer is already kinda wowen into the main quest, you can't miss it's parts.
however a very far-reaching mod could be made that replaces the equalizer with dak'kon's blade, for example:
1) instead of finding the pommel jewel, in irenicus' dungeon you find the basic, useless, unshaped dak'kon's blade
2) sometime in chapter 2 you are able to unlock the sword to tier 1 (maybe after meeting the gith in the planar prison - instead of fightning you, they could tell you a thing or two about shaping karach )
3) instead of finding the equalizer blade and hilt in the underdark, the gith you meet there enable you to unlock the sword to tier 2
4) in chapter six, if you return the silver sword blade to the gith (Kruin), as a reward he teaches you how to further unlock the zerth blade, to tier 3
tier 4 & 5 are for ToB
And the crappy equalizer will just lie somewhere, already assembled. The planar sphere feels like a good place for it.
edit: after googling a bit - you're right. githyanki and zerth blades just don't go hand in hand.
are there no githzerai in the game? (prolly not, can't remember any)
edit2:
@Corvino okay i have a solution:
- you can unlock the blade after meeting the group of gith in the planar prison *who will be made githzerai* in this mod
- after that, you don't have to meet anybody to upgrade it further, you just need WIS and xp
- you upgrade the blade via dialogue interaction (same as lilarcor)
