+ all those Berserker perks!
I picked Korgan just because he has some cool banters especially with Mazzy
Korgan makes me laugh, and I want to like him, but he's just too darned abusive to certain party members, like Jaheira. I never know just how seriously to take his constant threats of violence. At first, I thought I might be detecting some sexual tension between Jaheira and him, but then I started to fear that they were about to come to blows and try to kill each other.
I often take him and want to use him, and I help him get his book, and I plan to take him through the game, but then I always wind up having to dismiss him before he hurts somebody. Since I play good, I can't go along with what he insists we do about Valygar, either.
I wish he weren't evil, because he's arguably the most powerful melee fighter in the game, and he can do a controlled berserk (unlike Minsc), with all those immunities. He's the only npc who can laugh at a demi-lich.
To be fair, I actually have a very close friend who's last name is Kaigan (And guess what? He plays Baldur's Gate! He made a dwarf named Kaigan and pretended they were half-siblings)
btw, he is the person who first informed me that they were making enhanced editions, so I owe him a debt of gratitude. This will be my ode to him
Honourable mention to Kagain for his medieval mafia don personality.
I don't usually take Yeslick because I prefer to get my party set very early. If he were available near the start of the game I'd definitely consider him, Fighter/Cleric is a great class (and Dwarf is a great race for it both mechanically and for flavor) even if his stats are a bit underwhelming.
So for me it comes down to Kagain and Korgan. They both fill about the same role, awesome CON and respectable DEX means they make great tanks. Korgan gets an awesome kit and exceptional strength, though, so I definitely prefer him mechanically. He does conflict with Aerie who I enjoy using (Cleric/Mage is a very fun combo), so he's not a guaranteed pick, but I wouldn't dream of skipping him if I don't take her.
I would incorporate the "Guarded Compound" in the Temple District as part of her quest. We know that it was part of the slaver's operation (maybe one of the headquarters) from Nalia's quest, but it is a very low-key and downplayed part of the game (almost an Easter Egg, but not really)
If I could I would give her a special ability to play a song that makes all her allies enraged once per day for 2 turns or something like that, to play into the whole barbarian/skald type of theme, I think it may be kind of a cool take. I'd make her neutral (TN or CN). I kinda want to make an option inter-NPC romance option (like with Korgan or Valygar or something). I like that idea, since it is kinda odd that your character gets ALL these romance options and basically the only other romance in the air is some Haer'Dalis and Aerie brief semi-sort of-not really romance. I envision her not getting along with Edwin (since many Thayans are okay with slavery, and I definitely think Eddie would loooove a pet simian to fetch his spellbook and take his verbal abuse). I think the relationship with Korgan would be nice as a choice of which way to take it: depending on what happens they either fight or become fast friends (maybe even more). I also see her as being a huge Mazzy fan (fellow female shorty who is super badass)
Who do YOU leave to die in a flooded mine?
Also the last of the Mohicans soundtrack always plays in my mind when we get ambushed and Yeslick, the last of his clan, dies.
