Avenger dual class...?

Demonoid_LimewireDemonoid_Limewire Member Posts: 424
Hey, i managed to roll in BG1 a druid with exceptional stats! (17 str, 18 dex, 18 con, 3 int, 18 wis, 18 cha). I am thinking of going through the first game with this as main, and import it in 2. In 2, i am going to turn avenger. But with these stats, i was wondering, if it would be a good idea to do the following...

1) Level up to 20 avenger (3250000).
2) Dual to fighter...
3) Level up to 25 fighter (4750000).
4) manage proficiency points so as to end up having 3* to dual wield, and grandmasteries to both scimitars and daggers.
5) from druid HLAs, pick up only the 2 elemental summonings (normal and greater), the mass revive (druids don't have other ressurection spell) and transformations (druid exclusives) and from fighter HLAs, pick up only the whirlwinds by adding points only to Greater Whirlwind.

Is the whole trouble and procedure worth it? Will i be able to get enough xp to get both classes' benefits? Or am i better off playing only avenger? Also, are transformations actually worse than your normal stats (if they are high enough) combined with good equipment?

Umm. High level druid is way more useful than high level fighter. I'd stay Avenger and not dual to fighter at all. If anything, I'd EEkeep a fighter/avenger multi. The special transformations (fire and earth elemental) are neat, but rather situational. But alas, a pure Avenger is the only druid I ever played through the saga and NWN, so I'm probably biased.

No, i would never use an editor. Only what game allows. You convinced me, trully. I 'll stay avenger like you suggest. Baby wyvern and sword spider seem to be good enough for anyone wanting melee...

The shapes are neat, especially spider. On high levels, the arcane spells you get also pay out, especially Chromatic Orb --> stun (or insta-kill) followed by poison is a lot fun, or free action/potion of freedom, Web --> aura of flaming death --> fire elemental --> watch world burn. Avenger is a fun kit that, unlike the other druid kits, isn't underpowered. It's just right; somewhat challenging at first and can keep up with other classes in BG2.

I prefer to think of Mass Raise dead as an improved form of Mass Cure because it heals more and has a faster casting time. Still, Greater Restoration is probably a better spell slot pick.

    Mass Cure - 1d8 + 1/level; speed factor 5
    vs.
    Mass Raise Dead - 3d10 + 1/level; speed factor 2

Greater Restoration is certainly an option for clerics but druids can't get it.

Good catch on the mass raise dead. 23-50hp healed makes it actually a pretty good spell if you are looking to do that. Still, Druids get their best spells at level 7. Between the elemental summoning, elemental princes, the deva, nature's beauty, earthquake, firestorm, and energy blades (to name a few) its got a lot of competition.

Now on the EE is a single target spell, it was too over powered, but I liked it :( I don't think that it's worth the spell slot anymore.

Its still a quick casting heal spell that cures basically anything. At higher levels its probably good to have one around as a just in case kind of spell.

Hindo's Doom+4 gives a free Greater Restoration spell. Anyone who can wield it can use this neat spell.
