Do Tome stat increases from BG1 carry over to BG2 on returning party NPCs?

To clarify I mean I picked up a Tome of Clear Thought in BG1 and I'm considering using it on either Imoen or Neera in the hopes that they can inherit that same extra point in BGII when I import my savegame. Will it actually work this way or is it only able to carry over on my own character?

    Tome stat increases only count on CHARNAME when carrying over.

    No.

    Imported stats will only work for Charname. However, some of the returning NPCs get improved stats automatically anyway, and it's easy to edit characters with EE Keeper. If you give extra points to Imoen or Neera via the Tomes, editing them into the beginning of BG 2 would not seem like cheating to me.

    I like a Charname who shares ;)
