This is not breaking news and I'm not providing any new content.
Just, good god how much they roll through the game. I've soloed BG1 before (thief/mage), but never BG2. I'm almost through SoA and I've never had an easier playthrough. The only really tough spot (so far) was the Duchal Palace fight. However, I've never played ToB before, so I'm sure that will be quite challenging.
The fact that the cap for SoA isn't there just completely breaks the game. But...I'm quite enjoying it nonetheless
I am exacting my revenge for all my previous games one jackstomped Elder Orb/Lich/Mind Flayer at a time

Liches don't resist dying with Incendiary Clouds, you can cast just two and the Lich will die in a short time, this is useful against all the spellcasters anyway.
I'm sure there will be many challenges. My main concern is that I should probably experience ToB first with a whole party.
Anyway, I know there isn't a lot to this thread. However, if anyone has been tempted to try it, I can attest to how fun this playthrough is!
The duchal palace is actually quite easy for a sorc : spiderspawn (pre cast) + web x2-3 make short work of the dopplegangers
with 8mxp cap, soa is anyway very easy with all characters. With a sorc, just summon a planetar and let him to the job.
as for tob, i did not play for 10 years and yet, apart from balthazar (and his stuns) i had absolutely no problem. Just keep a planetar on as a bodyguard and use either time stop/improve alacrity or time stop/shapechange
What's the consensus on the cheese factor of ImpInv + SI:Divination?
*Shudders*
Regarding cheese and arcane magic, the problem is that when you use a spell to it's full potential (often in combo), it often breaks all opposition :
- 2x web + spiderspawn is cheesy? It surely breaks all early game fights.
- is time stop + improve alacrity cheesy?
- time stop + shapechange : mind flayer?
- using mordy swords against powerful physical attackers (like fire giants) leaving them no way to retaliate?
- improve invis + SI divination so that casters cannot target you?
Personnally i don't think they are cheesy since they are doing exactly what they should do.
Furthermore refusing to use spell combos is removing all the fun from arcane magic.
When soloing with a sorcerer, early SoA is what I enjoy the most.
Later on, and even with mods, you need to use self restricting rules (item or high level spell exclusions).
Strangely enough you don't hit a hard limit : you don't rely on the most obvious tactics anymore and you happily explore the full spell catalog/options.
They key, as stated by skaffen is to use summon. 1 planetar will clear all most soa maps by himself.
Also, you have project image which works great with sorceror and gives you nearly unlimited casts
Finally, wish completely removes the need to rest. I think i finished tob below 40 days. (and did all main subquests in SOA, and complete watcher's keep)

It depends on how often you use Image/Simulacrum/Spell Trap/Wish. You can also unlock your spell progression table to mimic the pnp rules for mages.
