the +5 darts are created by the cloak. so if you have a few memorized images, you can have the images use the cloak, kill the image, then collect the darts. each image can create 6 darts. a 7th level slot may not be worth 6 darts.
similarly, the book of infinite spells can either cast a spell or turn a page. if you have an image turn a page, you can collect a new book at the next page for every image. this allows several books with several spells to be acquired, without losing any spells. instead, there will be a book for each spell.
this presumably works with all items that 'transform' into another item. the rod of priestly might should fall into this category as well, adding items into images' inventory and then killing the image should result in duplicate items.
