It acts as a level drain, terribly annoying especially for casters since you'll have to organize their memorize on rest spells again :x

Anyways, a Restoration spell removes it. Either have a cleric that can cast it, or buy scrolls from temples.

One thing is energy drain and another is level drain though, if stats have been drained (energy) just let some rounds pass and it will go away, if it's level drain, then you'll have to use restoration as Sylph says.

    Some other useful information:
1). Casting restoration will leave your cleric fatigued (lasts until rest)
2). The best answer is to prevent level drain with the spell negative plane protection or certain equipment. Note most enemies that level drain are pushovers without it so I often solo them with a protected melee character.

Vampires are indeed a rather annoying one-trick pony. There are a few spells and items that protect from level drain. Having a Negative Plane Peotection spell or 2 available at all times is pretty useful.

negative plane of protection suuuuuucks as a spell (5 rounds duration - whaaat?). IMO you're best off cashing in as early as possible on the Shadow Thieves quest (15k) to get the Amulet of Power and putting it on a someone who can melee relatively well (jahiera, anomen, haer'dalis etc)

    Or just use Dorn.

NPP is good for "ohh crap its late out and thats a vampire" moments because it has a short casting time.

Yeah I think its very useful for that. You only need your front two or three to be protected, and if you have the Amulet of Power, and Dorn or an Undead Hunter in your party, you likely only need one application of NPP to provide all the protection you'll ever need.
And suddenly Vampires are just an easy way to pick up experience.

Don't forget Korgan's berserker rage which conveniently protects against both charm and drain.

Get Azureedge if you have a good aligned character that can use it. Many times the vamps will never reach you...

Korgan while in berserker state, Dorn, Hexat.... as ppl can see evil parties don't suffer much from this level drain problem :)! An undead hunter can do the job also for goody two shoes parties, among with Minsc (his berserker state also prevent him from being level drained). Any mage with protection from magic weapons also ae immune to level drain (from attacks of enemies as vampires, not from the spell itself).

Among items, the 2 early you can get are the mace of disruption with the illitium upgrade (+2) that give immunity to level drain while hold and amulet of protection.

Good parties go to bed at night and don't have the problem... :)

I don't know about that, I always play good, and I LOVE vampire hunting!

Sadly, I don't have a cleric (dumb, I know) -- I have my main character (Inquisitor), Minsc, Jaheira, Nalia, Keldorn, and Valygar. Two of my characters have energy drain -- and I have no one to cast restoration. I can buy a scroll at a temple . . . but no one can cast it. Is there any alternative to going waaaay back (I thought it would go away before long -- ) ?? Thanks.

Eh? I could've sworn that Restoration scrolls were universally usable. Failing that, I'm pretty sure you can have temples cast it on you directly as well.
  • atcDaveatcDave Member Posts: 2,415
Just select the drained character as the active at the temple, then go to the "temple services" menu, and you should see restoration come up as a choice.

Ah, thanks, that's probably what I was doing wrong. In any case, I hired Anomen for a minute and he took care of the problem.

I coulda sworn Jaheira can... I usually run with Jaheira and Anomen and keep a couple restoration scrolls on each of them in case the other one is indisposed.

No, I tried Jaheira and she couldn't. But Anomen worked fine.

You'll know next time, @mythlady - every party should have a Cleric, they're extremely useful and you're making it much harder for yourself without one! :-)
