So, am I basically screwed?

I'm currently playing the TotSC portions of BG1 for the very first time ever (I didn't buy the expansion for several years after it was first released, by which time I was heavily involved in BG2). I just entered the Ice Island and had a terrific battle with the first group of mages. As you can see from the below screenshot, only half my party survived the encounter (somehow, Viconia managed to hold things together while the rest of my party was either killed and/or magically confused). However, now I'm left with only a cleric (Viccy) and two rangers (Kivan and myself) - no thief, no mage, and still an entire unknown area to explore. I never even identified the wardstone that the guy who sent me on this mission gave me, and now I have no one left who can do that.

I suppose I can try resting and have Viconia memorize a bunch of find traps spells, although I still won't be able to disarm any traps. There's also the fact that I don't think it's possible for me to carry all the equipment of my dead comrades. And besides, I don't even know whether I still have the manpower to stand up to whatever is waiting for me.

Obviously I can always just reload and try the battle again, but I'm trying to reload as little as possible, and besides which I'm proud of the fact that I still managed to come through in this battle after it had seemed hopeless at one point.

Anyone have any advice?

As far as I recall, most of the traps are like Lightning Bolt/Fireball so if you can dodge them then that's not a problem. The mages do get harder each time, but if you keep hailing arrows at them & have Viconia summon to deflect their attacks then you should be able to beat it :)

Yeeahh, I always struggle with this first battle. Just try to backstab at least one mage. When the things go too much wild, I try to keep my party near the entrance. So the mages run out of magical protections. It is also fine to lure the enemy one by one near the entrance. It is not easy fight, but it is doable. :-)

You still got some strength potions there, that can help to carry some loot. You probably have to leave a few things you find due to inventory slots, but you may get the important gear of your dead party members back out.

I don't think you need to id the wardstone to get back iirc, and maybe u can team up with some of the mad wizards in there. Not sure last option is possible but u can talk to them though.

I have heard you can recruit one of them. Never managed, myself.

I want to say that you can recruit one of them.
I'm pretty sure he betrays you at the end

You could use powerful console magics to bring a priest from some random temple there. Just so you still have to pay to resurrect :D

Or you can use CRTL+R and become yourself a cleric :P
Maybe you can RP justify Clua'ing a cleric as "hey, Shandalar sent him to retrieve his cloak".
