Mysterious thief at the Graveyard?

Was just doing Hexxat's and Korgan's graveyard quests. Reasonable challenge and good loot and all that. I noticed a mysterious thief with no name near an entrance to a crypt. The thing is, he is not normally there, but when you stand close to the door (Like Jaheira does here) a thief figure spawns and blinks for the fraction of a second, and dissapears. Info tool shows no name. He is neutral so when I tap to talk, my character tries to initiate dialogue but the thief just again dissapears. I had to pause the game just in time to capture a screenshot. He keeps spawning and despawning constantly there. Is this a bug from some quest, or area related glitch? Was this guy one of the mourner npcs from the original game? Or is this just a..harmless haunting, a phantom from monster manual? (Phantoms are psychic remnants of a particularly grisly death. They are not ghosts, they are not interactable, they are just 3d looking short series of images playing over and over. For more info http://lomion.de/cmm/phantom.php )

Since my game is modded, is this a glitch from mods? Is this particular thief there in an unmodded game? Just curious. The entrance is just north upstairs of Wellyn the halfling kid's grave, inside the tomb there are two shadow fiends and a mummy and a locked coffin)

    Nope, just SCS and a few graphic/portrait enhancements.. I play on Ipad so mods which bring huge amounts of new dialogue-written text are no-no for me. (Can't overwrite dialog.tlk without a jailbreak)

    There are grave robbers at night and you have the option to turn hostile against them. The fact they appear and disappear may be a feature of SCS to simulate thieves Hide in Shadow.

    Oh wow, is this vanilla game content? Never knew this. So if I visit there at night will I be able to interact with them? I never visit graveyard at dark night. The place just becomes too darn creepy.

    @lunar: Yes, there's a Thief-like character (actually a grave robber, as @bbear says) who sometimes appears at that location at night, even in the vanilla game. However, I'm not sure why he's blinking in and out in your game, that might be a mod side-effect.

    Yeah, I remember seeing that guy there for me too. Almost stuck behind the door and blinking in and out existence. I have SCS installed too but it's not potion related, he blinks in and out too quick for that.

    I think it is the same game mechanics as Aesgareth's thief (WK level 3 where you play the Deck of many things). That thiefling appears and disappears (hide in shadow, not potion of invisibility) just like your description.
