Just an update. Playing another blade bard. 86 on stat roll. I'm awesome. Get knicked twice by Shank. No big deal. Go to kill rats. Success. Go to take on Carbos.
....My longsword just broke. I JUST GOT THAT THING! I HATE THE IRON CRISIS! I HATE IT SO MUCH!
long story short I left at 3HP left and let a Watcher kill Carbos as he followed me.
Edit:I just checked. The warhammer I used when my longsword broke also broke. Its going to be one of *those* playthroughs. Note to self, next time, monk.
I don't think I've ever been killed by them but I have fled Carbos with a sorcerer after he critted her for 7 of her 8 hit points. Poor lass couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with her pitiable dagger and she'd expended her spells on Shank.
I got killed by shank on my no reload all specialist mages gig. I was an Ellvish Diviviner (Xan Would have been my Enchanter) So I picked Identify and Friends as my memorised spells in order to pick up a +1 dagger off Fuller, but got shanked by shank instead. Magic is impressive etc...
I have, potentially, something even more embarrassing to share...
It's not my story; it's my significant other's. I'd been trying for a long time to get him to play Baldur's Gate. Finally, I got him to sit down, make a character at 90 stats, some female fighter type, and goes into the game.
Buys a longsword. Kills Shank. Gets slightly wounded, but nothing serious, by any means. Nothing that requires another 6-9 hour rest at Winthrop's Inn.
But the rats... The blasted rats...
Just like my sweetie to have the worst luck in the world, and have his longsword break on him mid-battle against the flippin' rats. He hadn't realized that his weapon had broken, and he kept trying to smack the little beasties off as they gnawed on his ankles--to no avail, of course. Eventually he exited the building with only a couple hitpoints left, bought another sword, and gutted the slimy vermin at last.
He was not happy...but at least he lived to tell the tale. Or rather, I tell it, since he dares not speak of it, lest he be consumed by rage. *sigh...*
Not killed, though I came close. Playing a Dwarven F/C I want into the fight with a hammer and a shield, but ended up with 2 hp left. I was swinging at the gun for 5 minutes or more, not hitting him and only getting hit back. Finally killed him and found out that the hammer most likely broke after the first swing >.>
I've never died to them in vanilla, but I've gotten Shanked in SCS. Poison weapons can be very mean to a level one... well, a level one anything, really. Owch.
