New surprises

So I walk into Copper Coronet after completing the Umar Hills adventures. Some moron ogre named gorf starts insulting Mazzy and we go into the copper coronet to find him. He's nowhere to be found, but while looking I talk to a guy from Joluv. I've never talked to this guy before, in all my years playing BG, and he says he's recently arrived from Ten Towns, and he's got a whole store full of epic weapons from the Icewind Dales games, such as Hrothgar's Axe, Jondahar's staff, the Defender of Easthaven, etc. I'm like WTF HOLY S%&*!!! Has this guy been here this whole time, or is it a easter egg?

Also, I recently I bought Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale 2 from GoG.com and started playing. Could it be that BG:EE recognizes I have Icewind Dale and this guy shows up as a crossover character? I don't know.

This got me thinking, what new surprises have caught you off guard, making you go "wow, how did I miss that?"

@ZaknafeinBaenre Joluv is one of two vendors added in the Collectors Edition, but they included them both in BG2EE too.

The second merchant's name is Deidre and she's in Ribald's Store IIRC.

Yes, in the original game, the bonus merchants could be added via command line.. I think if you changed a setting in the .ini document first.

New surprises, with EE giving a new chance to play again, I'm taking along NPCs I never used much previously, like Anomen, Haer'Dalis and so on, and that's added quite a bit of "newness" to things.

My last surprise to find the arrow merchant in the promenade - yes, it's listed as fletcher on the map but I always only talked to the guy opposite the door (normal merchant) and never noticed the other one standing at the north wall. Arrows of Biting and Dipelling, hurray!

As for Gorf, you need to talk to his girlfriend who is in that area, then he will come.

Another new surprise I found: a bejuril inside a chicken.

That's my favorite easter egg in BG2! And much more since you can say "This is between me and the chickens, don't intervene" to the woman that owns the chickens :P

A nasty surprise in my last game was when the great Sir Anomen took it upon himself to kill a neutral black market thief, causing part of the Bridge district to go hostile.

When I told him I wasn't interested in his goods the Halfling thief said something vaguely threatening, Anomen took offence at that and flung his Sling of Everard... one shot was all it took. Ughhh.

Don't try it on Melicamp though! :)

That's awesome, don't you love it when the self-righteous are at their shenanigans?

You know, I talked to her, and she said something like "here he comes now, you are gonna get it," or something to that effect, but there was never any gorf. And I waited...looked around, opened a bunch of doors. Finally I started questioning other patrons. That's how I found the easter egg merchant lol

    that quest is notoriously buggy
its quite common for gorf not to show up or a dialogue not to work

im a little surprised it wasn't sorted out in the EE

@element It's a BG2 bug, the red headed stepchild of Overhaul when it comes to bug fixing. :)

Yea for me he appeared in the pit himself (I ctrl-J'd into it to check it out). In order to get the quest to work I had to buy the poison, ctrl j into the pit, ctrl-y Gorf, ctrl-j out of the pit, sweet talk the girlfriend and then console in Gorf. After talking to him things played out properly after that point.

Wow, too much work for a marginal quest imho. I'll just leave gorf with his sad little life. Maybe i'll kill his chick instead.

I looked it over internally. Looks like it wasn't reported until December (post release). I'm surprised the fixpacks didn't cover it.

Edit: Apparently the fixpacks fixed a few problems with the quest but nothing that would be relevant in my circumstance.

Im a little surprised, I thought the issues with this quest were well known. Had I been aware it hadn't been reported for such along time id have made sure to point it out. personally ive been having problems with this quest for some time

To make him show up, I had to open one of the back doors in the Copper Cornet near the animal fighting pit. Then he walked right through.

well, I just did it again on my next playthrough. This time, the girl wouldn't talk to mazzy, only to CHARNAME, then I talked to the alchemist, and refused his help. Then I went back and talked to the girlfriend again, and THEN gorf came in, and Mazzy kicked his ass.
