Most hated enemy?

Which enemies do you hate coming across?

In BG1 I really hated ettercaps, with their stupid poison and web traps. Plus they're fat and gross looking. When I first played the game I was scared stupid of Ankhegs, because they're so easy to accidentally bump into when you're level 2 or 3.

In BG2 it's the SCS version of yuan-ti mages. Oh how I hate these guys. What's worse is there are a LOT of them. You get them in the Keep, they can near the ruined temple (Unseeing eye), in packs of 3 in the planar prison, tons of them in Spellhold. Ugh. They're magic resistant, always improved invisible, always with fireshields, PFMW, stoneskin. Plus they ALWAYS cast greater malison and chaos. You can't even bomb them to oblivion because of their MR and they seem buggy because sometimes they seem to take no damage. Before you go through the giant head in Spellhold there's a pack of 3, with a greater yuan-ti and some regular ones. I cast time stop, dragons breath and 2 ADHWs: it only killed one mage, one was barely injured and one was uninjured.

    I agree with skaffen. Those little annoying buggars always do annoy me.

    The don't look like real threat, you don't focus them or prepare defenses againts them. But they still can screw you hard, which is something you can't say about other low level monsters.

    @Skaffen‌ & @Arizael‌: Mephits can be annoying. A minor globe of invulnerability will block all those breath attacks.

    For me, I hate beholders. They are difficult to deal with w/o cheese or HLA.

    Mind Flayers in BG2, green slimes in BG1. With them its usually pure luck that decides whether you die or no.

    Don't like Mindflayers/Illithids as they sucked out my brain in the Temple Sewers hidden passage.
    Vampires have cost me an arm and a leg restoring my levels.

    Anything that can hit me with a hold spell when I'm being swarmed.

    Liches for the damnable timestop.

    Golems in general.

    Cowled Wizards for forcing me to buy a bloody permit.

    Renald Bloodscalp for taking me guild away.

    Nahlia for not giving me a keep.

    Kobolts just because the rat faced buggers have unlimited fire arrows.

    Any worshipper of Illmater.

    Spiders in general because any spider bigger than a coin should be killed.

    I'm sure there are much more monsters I hate although but then again, I have issues. Also, Nahlia is a monster in my eyes and Renald should be considered one. He's worse than a Pay day loan.

    I've hated so many things, but learned to deal with them. I think I still hate anything with protections I can't dispel, especially if I'm not carrying Spellstrike or something and my characters keep complaining their weapons do nothing.

    Also, that spider area of Cloakwood. I go in, make a beeline for the spider nest, get that done, and get the heck out. Stupid traps + stupid Imoen = annoyance.

    In BG1: kobolds all the way! Boy I'd hate them for their yapping alone...
    Probably well aware of how puny they are, they always attack in large groups with their bows. And if you're not careful they may even best you that way... Cowardly creatures.
    There is no fun, no honour and no reward in battling this vermin.

    In BG2 vampires, beholders and illithid somehow make me want to kill them reaaly bad, but they aren't nearly as annoying as the kobolds in BG1.

    BG2: The freakin low level groups that ambush you when you are moving between overland maps. They aren't even difficult they are just annoying! Plus after the first ambush the gear they give you isn't even good (except for the scrolls for selling/re-memorizing)

    Yeah, those are annoying, at low levels it's good because they give you around 1000 GP (which is nice) so you don't care that much.

    Currently hating on (SCS) elder orbs, especially the one in the twisted rune encounter, at least lich goes down instantly with traps. I had to give up on cleaning the underdark beholder lair because of them.

    Beholders

    I personally *hate* the entire Underdark section mainly due to how linear the whole questline is and how it has Beholders, Mind Flayers and Drow. The latter two have so much magic resistance that it feels like all my straight mages are completely useless for anything more than self-buff baits since most spells have a ~70% chance to fail against them, and beholders are, well, boring. Worst of all you have to deal with at least two of the above, or else go deal with the Kuo-Toa. Don't even get me started with SCS improved beholders and not being able to rest in the illithid city >.<

    My (almost) Ex? Does that count? She isn't in BG, but..... She is EVIL incarnate, so....

    I do kinda hate mephits in BG2. They are such a pain. there was this one in the maze level of Watcher's keep in this room full of Demons. Well, I wiped out the entire lot of Demons except this one Mephit who kept on using his unlimited use Invisibility. He would pop in, attack someone and the disappear. No matter what spells I used to divine his location, He'd appear and then disappear again. I chased the bugger for almost an hour before giving up and going somewhere else (it was a scorched earth policy so he HAD to die).

    I'd say Umberhulks are up there in my book. Certainly I hate the confusion. it's a real PITA every time I have to wait till one of my Tanks recovers before bringing down the hammer. And my guys are surprisingly effective in harming their own team members when under the 'fluence...

    I don't include Mind Flayers or Beholders because you KNOW they are dangerous and fully prepare against them. Umberhulks and Mephits are more nuisance creatures and you don't really want to waste perfectly good spells (or spell slots in anticipation of same) on them. At least I don't.

    I hate thieves with invisibility potions and level draining bastards that make me spend 15 minutes getting my spellbooks back in order.

    @ZaknafeinBaenre - That's what clerics are for. Get a good one going when you know they are around and you won't have much trouble. Get Viccy to work, and you all of the sudden have several allies that will rip apart your enemies.

    Still, I agree that they are a PITA with the invis and the level drain hit.
  • CrevsDaakCrevsDaak Member Posts: 7,155
    @ZaknafeinBaenre‌ that's the third time you ninja'd @Flashburn LOL.
    and those Mists are so easy to hate, they level drain+invisibility+haste+horrid sounds that annoy me+horrid graphic that they made me hate=I hate them.

    Golems are a nightmare for me at low levels, for sure... the big ones in Nalia's castle and the planar sphere are awkward to deal with if you go for them very early in the game. However, at high levels with a geared-up party and someone swinging Crom Faeyr, even the toughest golems are little more than a nuisance. Umber Hulks, on the other hand, always seem to cause me problems at any stage of the game.
  • the_spyderthe_spyder Member Posts: 5,018
    The golems in Nalia's keep can be really tough for a low level party (long about the time I go there). I usually have the entire party wait at the stairs, load up whatever thief I have with haste potions and have him "hoof it". Once he grabs all of the loot, he merely meets the party at the stairs and we leave. We aren't coming back after all.

    Sbut every time I see an Adamantine Golem pop up on screen, I can't help but cry and whimper for mercy. ;_;

    I have a personal hate for Magic Golems, because being immune to every single type of magic wasn't enough for them; they have a ranged attacked that drains the charges from your items. Adamantine Golems are like Iron Golems, they are mostly tanks with somehow low AC and 95% damage reduction, you can take them with a Greater Whirlwind attack easily. Clay Golems are the most hateful... only magical blunt weapons, can Haste and somehow they are always with Stone Golems that cast Slow... a very tricky duo, Stone Golems aren't difficult, you just need a +2 weapon to hit them, they THAC0 is good, they have one (deadly) attack per round that deals an insane amount of damage.

    Another creature I hate is the werebear, it's so legitimate to 2E D&D that it seems like cheating.

    Another creature I also hate is the werefox, it's so cheating to 2E D&D that it seems legitimate.

    What I really hate though... GOLEMS. They always start Hasted, cast Slow on every successful hit, do ridiculous amounts of damage, and have super magic resistance! Not to mention they're only hurt by blunt, magic weapons! (All the archers on the team: TT_TT ) The small ones aren't so bad, but every time I see an Adamantine Golem pop up on screen, I can't help but cry and whimper for mercy. ;_;

    You forgot to mention that stupid poison mist that is so deadly. How many times I need to cast slow poison on minsc before he kills it with Lilocor at the Keep?
