saving in the throne of bhaal

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I have been trying to play so many games but I just now finally got to the throne in my first EE playthrough. Unfortunately, I also must admit that I have ascension and SCS both installed, and strangely I am unable to save after the battles, something I remember doing in vanilla. I get the monsters about message although I killed everything in the encounter, and it basically seems as though I will need to continue redoing everything except the Irenicus part until I finally beat it all in one go, and that is not easy in the ascension fight (at least for me who isn't the most experienced player). is there any way around this or perhaps an autosave after the 3 corners? also it might have something to do with the corners because when I click them again for the abilities/healing/resting it doesn't actually act like a rest and give back my spells, although I seem to remember it doing so. i am just so close to finishing this and feel accomplished to have done ascension, SCS, insane, but I am going to need some saves to get through this one after my last attempt at ascension ended when I couldn't beat melissan.

    got on today and tracked the problem to a babau that would go invisible and just seemingly go nowhere. it just goes invisible and never comes back even with illusion detecting magic/thief skill. it is like it is teleporting off the map somewhere. i will just have to ctrl+y it before it does anything and I should be fine after I kill the rest

    edit: nevermind that. I thought that was what was doing it, but I guess not. i am getting a bad feeling about this battle :(
