Mac Bug/Annoyance

Hi,

I think BGEE is one of the best games I've ever had. I played it years ago and liked it but it didn't run so well on the Mac I had at the time and so didn't really get into it that much.

One problem/bug/annoyance is that way the scrolling works on a Mac (and maybe on a PC/iPad too). I have a Apple Magic Mouse and on the Save/Load Screens for instance, I can scroll the list by stroking the top of the mouse, this is great and is how it should be IMO, but what isn't good is that once you hover over a button (like Load) it should disable the scrolling. Otherwise, if you move your finger slightly (as you click to select load) it scrolls the display BEFORE the click and if the cursor now happens to be on another button (e.g. Load from a file entry slightly above or below the one you want) they it clicks *that* button instead of the intended button. If you notice this then it's not so bad, you just do another load, BUT, if you don't notice (and it happens quite quickly, I've just figured out what is happening) then you return to a different game, if you notice that then you can just reload, but if the wrongly selected game is similar to the one you really wanted, then you can lose a lot of progress. This happened to me after I'd just won a very difficult fight and was on my way back to town, when I got killed by a wolf (which I could have easily zapped). So I reloaded what I thought was a game just after the fight, but it was from BEFORE the fight and I didn't notice! I then overwrote the correct file with the old version! Was very annoyed and it put me off playing for the evening!

In general the scrolling of all boxes doesn't work well with a magic mouse and is very inconsistent, with some boxes being capable of being scroll by "Stroking" the MM and some not. Some you have to click the up/down arrows, some if you click and hold the up/down arrow it repeats others you have to single click for it to work.

They is very annoying and is the only real moan I have about an otherwise brilliant game!

IMO, the File Load/Save screens/file handling should call the OS and it let handle selecting the file in the normal way for the host OS. That way you could put your game into folders which would make it much easier to organise.

All the Best
Dave

Yeah, I have the same mouse and can say the same, scrolling in iPad sucks also.
This happened in the original BG2 (with the same mouse) to me after killing Improved Illasera, I know how you feel about overwriting.
