Infinity Adventure Maker

The premise is simple and could be a HUGE profit maker: a campaign maker for Infinity Engine style adventures.

Just think, you can make your own IE quest and send it out on the web for others to play.

This is just a basic premise, but I can't be the only one who sees great potential here.

For what it's worth, I love good editors and module creation tools. If that's Infinity Engine then great, if it's for whatever Overhaul do next then equally great.

Anything as easy and powerful as NWN's toolset would be welcome.

    Rest ye well, NWN. Sigh...

I raised this once way back, and evidently the Infinity Engine doesn't lend itself to creation of a toolset. There are modding tools, of course. DLCTP, NI, etc.

To have something like NWN had, you'd have to design to that end from the beginning.

Exactly. Aurora was designed to allow extensive (and fairly easy) modding. Infinity is not quite as flexible, unfortunately.

Why would one think it's a good idea to deliberately NOT make their engine moddable?

Although technically, it's not 'modding' in the sense currently used.

First and foremost it's a brand new game. This isn't like taking Pools of Radiance and modding it until you have Unlimited Adventures but more like taking Pools of Radiance's engine and creating a campaign maker.

In all technicality, this isn't "modding" if you get my drift. It's campaign making.

As others have said, it's a great idea. I think that was the main push behind making NWN; specifically so that players could MOD it. As to why that wasn't the original focus of BG? Who knows? Money? Not understanding a need for that? Engine limitations? Who knows except the original dev team themselves?

Probably. Back when the game was made, modding wasn't really a concept that was considered when releasing a title. I'd be surprised if there were any games back then which had that capability.

I feel like nobody understands or is skimming over my point.

    Goldbox games: not very moddable.
Unlimited Adventures: Campaign maker, same engine!

    Exile/Avernum 1/2/3: Not very moddable
Blades of: Make your own campaigns.

As you can see, this isn't a modding tool. It's a campaign maker... is there a difference or am I not explaining this in an understandable way?

@Dazzu There is not enough of a difference for it to matter. A campaign maker is all but impossible due to the tremendous amount of work that'd need to be put in. Most games with campaign makers are made with this in mind.

This is not saying the devs are lazy. This is saying the devs don't have time to move mountains. Your idea is nice, its just not realistic.

Not so. Doom and quake were heavily modable, as were a fair few other games.

BTW, where would the HUGE profits come from?

Seriously this would be so cool if possible, but from what all these party poopers (=p) are saying, it seems really difficult to implement. I would love to have some new little IE mini games
