Anyone looking for someone to play with?

I've only played multiplayer in EE once on LAN for all of 15 minutes or so before they quit after a bear killed us. I'm kind of afraid of internet forum people but I prefer playing with real people over AI so I decided to come here and look for people. I've gone through BGEE all the way through once singleplay, and the BP twice. Did BGEE and one run of the BP after, a few months ago and I got BG2EE a month or so ago and I've played only that game since I got it. Been sick and injured so I've been playing from dawn till dusk (practically, I do other stuff too but not as much) a few days and got bored so that's when I started a new BP game (soloed it), got through the whole first BP and through tier 1 of BP2 with the same char in a day (yesterday) and now I'm bored with that. Thought I might try a multiplay, real people make it more interesting/fun.

I just made a new character for multiplaying BG. Spent all morning rolling his stats.
He's a Half-Orc Berserker, Chaotic Good, not designed to be the party leader (has 10 Charisma) so if someone wants to play a high charisma paladin char or something and lead that works out. I prefer to use this character for a new game, because of his backstory, but I'd be happy to make another equally detailed character of any class which fits your group if you have a game already in session. I would be interested in playing through BGEE and BG2EE. I would be interested in roleplaying as our characters in game. Edit: I now have the latest version of the game.

This is his bio, idk how long I just spent on this but probably more time than I should have xD

When asked about his past, Juran hands you a thick scroll. On inspection you see that it’s several scrolls layered and rolled together. He explains that he once told his history to a scholar named Topeth, who he’d met by chance in a tavern. Topeth felt compelled to write it all down, he made a few copies and this was one of the copies he gave to Juran.

As you begin to read the first scroll, you notice the small print is in a stylized but messy font. You believe it was likely written by a scholar of little experience...
**Its unlikely that someone of less than 10 Intelligence would be able to read the small messy print of these scrolls.**

“Juran Whitetooth of the Whitetooth clan. A compendium by Topeth Gint of Mirabar.

The life and History of Juran Whitetooth, the third son of Half-Orc Grakzhor AKA Grayson Whitetooth, first of his name, of the Whitetooth clan in the Crags, who was first son, of Orc Chief Gorgzal Thorntooth, second of his name, of the Thorntooth clan in the Crags.

Aside from some strange unconnected ink marks, there is nothing else on the first scroll. You start the second scroll...

“Pre-Whitetooth History, A Brief History of The Thorntooth.

Gorgzal had a taste for women and human slaves, and when his father; Blekzargol Thorntooth, first of his name, the founder of the Thorntooth clan of the Crags; fell in battle he took his place and kept a harem of orc women and human slaves for his pleasure. Of course the orc women were treated with much higher standing than the human women, they were given fine clothing (by Orc standards) and freedom about the camp, whereas the human women like Grakzhor’s mother were kept in cages and not taken care of very well.

Being the son of the chief, Grakzhor had run of the camp. But Gorgzal favored his Orc children over his Half-Orc offspring, and was much harder on his Half-Orc sons, killing most during his extreme "training.” Grakzhor was one of the ones fortunate enough to survive his fathers training. Though he had an advantage of a few years, as the harsher training didn’t start till his Orc sons were born and Grakzhor had already had a couple years of typical Orc training to build his strength and endurance.

Gorgzal began training his Half-Orc sons at even younger ages, because he felt that most were too weak and needed training from an early point in life to develop stronger. He began training his Orc sons at that age as well, so to give no advantage, but he was still severely harsher on his Half-Orc children. Half-Orcs develop slower than Orc children and their bodies often gave out soon after the training had begun. Those that survived resented Gorgzal for his harsh treatment of them, and the murder of their siblings. A sentiment their full Orc siblings didn’t seem to have. Some, like Grakzhor, with an unnaturally warm heart for an Orc (or a Half-Orc) also resented their father for his treatment of humans, and the other evil he lead his clan to do.

Despite their resentment, this harsh training made every last one of the Half-Orcs equal if not far superior to the Orcs in their clan, many; like Grakzhor; were even able to best their Orcan siblings who had similar training as they. For only the very strongest and most superior of inherent ability survived their fathers harsh training at an age before their bodies were developed enough (by the standards of civilized folk) to tolerate even the lightest of combat training. The female Half-Orcs were not treated with such extremity, none died because their father kept them also as slaves of his harem. Mostly they did servants work but some he took to bed as well. They too felt resentment with their Half-Human heart for the atrocities of their father.

At age 14 Grakzhor could no longer tolerate the evil his father and clan committed. He developed a plan to overthrow his father and free the slaves. For the next two years, he bided his time and rallied support from his Half-Orc siblings. And when he came of age at 16, with all of his Half-Orc (6) brothers and (8) sisters at his side, he revolted. They destroyed the camp, freed the slaves, and sent the surviving loyal members of the Thorntooth running into the hills for fear of their lives. At the beginning of the attack when Gorgzal learned of the treachery, and of them freeing the slaves, he instructed his men to kill any slaves they came across. Many were killed and injured, but some still survived in the end.

Victorious in battle, Grakzhor, or Grayson as his mother called him, lead his siblings through the Crags towards the city of Mirabar, to allow those of non-orc lineage a way back to safety. Some left, but many of the mothers of the Half-Orcs and family that had been caught with them stayed. In all there was but a few humans and over a dozen Half-Orcs in the group to start. Grakzhor was named leader, and they decided to form a new clan; The Whitetooth.

The second scroll has nothing more on it. You start the third scroll...

“The Whitetooth Clan

The Whitetooth clan is likely the only Orc clan (technically Half-Orc clan, but that too) who fought for good. Grakzhor adopted his mothers god, Lathander, and all the other Half-Orcs there also spurned the Orc gods, and following their leaders example worshipping Lathander as well. They fought against other Orcs, and protected travelers of the civilized land who roamed through and near the Crags. The Thorntooth clan, and Gorgzal who was left scarred across his face and body by the battle against his son, swore an oath to destroy the Whitetooth clan for their acts of treachery, and the embarrassment of fathering a clan such as they.

Grakzhor was chief, but his mother was treated as the elder of the clan. She taught of Lathander and steered them towards good. At first the Whitetooth clan was happy, and survived well. Years passed and soon they began to take partners, of eachother. It may seem strange to us, but I guess it was not so strange for Orcs to take their siblings as partners. Soon after things had stabilized, Grakzhor began his crusade against evil. But soon after they’d begun to make the Crags a place for good, some of his siblings began to grow dissatisfied.

All were convinced to take down their father, but not all did it for the reasons of justice. A couple of his brothers believed in what he was doing, but some did not. His siblings began to come to Grakzhor to tell him they were tired of his charity, and wished to go back to the more profitable ways of the Thorntooth, but were dismissed. Twice, a brother challenged him to battle to the death for right to be clan chieftain, and twice Grakzhor won. He was disheartened at having to slay his brothers, but at least he was certain of the loyalty of his remaining 4 brothers. After the death of his brothers, his sisters who supported them left the clan of their own will.

Remaining in the clan was Grakzhor and his 4 loyal brothers; Durzhkar/Durk, Jerof/Jeffrey, Tekkok, and Lurresh; his 5 remaining sisters; Zudesh, Tarzil/Tarra, Sandy, Derokla/Denise, and Chitar (It is unknown what Sandy’s Orc name was, if she had one); his mother Marianne who was also mother to Tarra and Sandy; the mother of two of his brothers (Durzhkar and Jerof); Dora; and her brother; Jim; and a woman who’d lost her sons to Gorgzal’s “training;” Sandra; and a man who’d fallen in love with Dora during their enslavement (his duty was mostly just to carry things around or be a foot stool for Gorgzal but he also was charged with feeding and watering Gorgzal’s women on occasion, though the duty was usually handled by his Orcan wives); George; and also baby Grekzhor/Gregor, first son of Grakzhor and Derokla.

Other children were born soon after, and the clan though still nomadic began to settle longer. Grakzhor began to charge a fair amount for his armed escort services through the Crags so that he could better afford to provide for his growing clan. They still faced threat from the Thorntooth and other clans; typically on small scale; however with their superior intellect and skill the Whitetooth never lost a member to combat, however the Thorntooth lost a member on occasion. They did well for many a year, but like most small clans they eventually came to an end...

There is nothing more on the third scroll. You begin to read the fourth scroll...

“The End of The Whitetooth Clan

Several years of prosperity later on the day of young Grekzhor’s 16th birthday and official coming of age, he and his brothers were out hunting and Grekzhor was determined to catch the largest pray, hoping for an Ankheg or a Wyvern though he’d never faced one before. He split up from the hunting party, which consisted of his 3 brothers in order, Dekzhor/Decker 15, Juran 14, and Torgruz/Tobias 12 (**It appears as though something in parenthesis was smudged out after the ink dried. Someone with a high Intelligence (15+) may be able to decipher it. “Juran told me that like his siblings he had both an Orc and Human name at one time, but has since combined the names, so that his name better reflects himself. He would not tell me what the other names were however.”**). Suddenly there was a shout from Grekzhor, and a bright light coming from his direction and his three brothers ran to him. They saw him disappear in thin air with the light surrounding him, they saw nothing else, and only heard the sound of the light crackling and the voice of an elf laughing.

They sent Torgruz back to inform their father Grakzhor, and began to search for their brother Grekzhor. The whole clan came to look for him but found no trace. Marianne said that it sounded like elf magic, and that Gregor may have been teleported a great distance. They returned home, and there Grakzhor told of what they would do. With Grekzhor gone, Dekzhor was next in line if anything were to happen to Grakzhor. So he charged Juran with finding his brother. They equipped him with their best equipment, and all the gold they had, and he set out.

Juran’s father impressed urgency upon him, for every moment that passed could be Grekzhor’s last. So Juran moved through the lands as quickly as possible, trying to avoid combat. He first began his search of course at Mirabar, the city he was most familiar with as it was the one his clan did most of their trading with and where they often found merchants and travelers to offer their guarding services to. He spent a couple days there asking around but no one had any knowledge of any elves in the area. If he had met me then, I would have been no help either.

He then traveled to the other destination their clan took, Luskan. (They travelled to Longsaddle at times too, but he expected to have no more luck there than Mirabar.) He spent some weeks there, but learned nothing of the magical elf which took his brother. He then traveled south to Neverwinter, he spent some months there; searching for clues, but this was also where he met his first love, another Half-Orc named Delilah. He got some freelance work with the Neverwinter guard, and was happy there, with his love, for a time. But eventually he felt that he’d exhausted all sources in Neverwinter that might know of his brothers whereabouts or who could have taken him.

When he set out, he gave Delilah some coin, and told her he would return for her some day when he’d found his brother. He then left for Waterdeep. He spent a few weeks there, every few nights in a different lodging. Then finally he got his first clue. In the bar of the inn he was in a man overheard him talking about the magical elf, and asking if anyone knew anything about him. The man told him he had a friend from Triboar who told him about a similar event. Another patron heard the commotion and said he’d also heard of that thing happening near Baldur’s Gate.

He decided to travel next to Triboar, as it was closer than Baldur’s Gate, and nearer to his home where his brother was taken. When he arrived, he sought the man he’d learned about. He found him the next day, but it turned out the man was only relaying a story to his Waterdavian friend about an incident which he’d heard (in Waterdeep) happened near Baldur’s Gate. Being close to his home, he decided to head out the next dawn to his clan to inform them of what he had learned.

The signature runs off the page partially. You continue to read on scroll five...

"The End of The Whitetooth Clan, continued.

Unfortunately, when he returned to the Crags his Clan was gone. They’d been wiped out, by whom nobody knows. He would have suspected the Thorntooth clan but they had also been wiped out. He searched for months, after a couple fornights he made his way to Luskan and there he asked around and drank himself to bed each night. There he stayed for the remainder of his search, drinking half his days away, dividing the others between questioning the townsfolk and searching the Crags for survivors who may have joined other clans.

Finally he set out to; or found himself closer to than Luskan one day on a search through the Crags; Mirabar to ask around there. This, is where he met me; Topeth Gint. I saw him drinking each day in the Tavern and asked his story. It is an uncommon sight, a Half-Orc spending his days in a tavern in Mirabar. He told me, and this is when I knew this story had to be recorded for all time. I’ve convinced him to travel back to Neverwinter and find his love, and travel with her to Baldur’s Gate to find his long lost brother. I do hope that he succeeds in both regards.

There is nothing more on this scroll, and none more to read.

If you pry for what happened after he left Mirabar, Juran will say he went to Neverwinter, but his love Delilah had gone and he could find no sign of her. He could not find anyone who knew where she’d gone, so he eventually departed for Baldur’s Gate. He stayed in Baldur’s Gate for some time, he heard more stories similar to his brothers disappearance but nothing that could point him in the direction of the elf that took him. However he did learn something new, some of the stories he heard was that people were being taken by a Drow elf. But he could not get a name, all he knows is that the fiend who took his brother was a Drow, and perhaps he has been taken to their home in the Underdark.

Unfortunately, he did not know how to get to the Underdark. He learned of Candlekeep and the vast sources of knowledge they had there, so he made that his next destination. There he gained entrance by offering up a copy of the scrolls about his clan. Once inside he learned of a way to the Underdark, but also of the numerous dangers that lurk in its shadows. This is also where he met the sage Gorion, and learned of his plight. Not knowing what to do next in his life, he agreed to help Gorion and his wards make their way to The Friendly Arm Inn.

I think you probably spent more time on your character's background than I ever have rolling one. I've never played multiplayer, but am up for a change of pace. I roleplay casually, at best, so I might not be the best partner, but I'm very flexible. I'm willing to try any role and I'm basically retired, so my playtime is huge. I'm normally up from 7am to 10pm est and can go a few hours at a time if you want. I don't use scripts, so I do use autopause for almost everything. Hopefully that won't be overly annoying in multiplayer, but I doubt our party will wipe to a wolf or bear. I'm fairly certain that we'll both have to use the same version. Either you'll have to patch to current (and lots of help here) or I'll have to figure out how to install an older version.

I spent quite a while on his background but I was just pulling it out of my behind for the most part, I don't often give much thought to my writing I just start and then piece together the spontaneous ideas I have. I spend a lot more time rolling for stats though xD even a single characters. But I never settle for less than 90. The highest I've ever got (that I can remember anyway) was only 96 though which took all the time in between commercial breaks (when watching shows in my free time when I wasn't working) for about a week.

After failing to find the site I originally bought it on or any way to manually update I just bought the game again from another source (the App Store on my Mac) to get the newest version so I could play a multiplayer with another group so I do have the latest version now. I'm still interested in starting a multiplayer with this guy, as the group I joined needed a mage so I quickly threw one together before the start. And their group only plays about 2 hours once a week so I have plenty of time for others.

I guess we'll see if we can get more people to join, and figure out our roles then set a time we can all play at. I'm generally up to doing things between 6AM and 9PM PST, my schedule is sporadic and I have a lot of play with it when I'm not working on location. So mostly my play availably is the same as yours, I'm almost always free on weekends, but sometimes random times in the week I have to reserve for work. I figure, we don't have to do an exact time every week or anything we can just discuss it here or on skype with the others that join us and pick any times we're all available (as often as what works for all of us).

I would be interested in playing a game with you guys. I can play any role as needed but I tend to enjoy thieving Chars the most. My schedule is generally 3pm-9pm est, but I can be on earlier if need be, I would just have to get a bit creative with my sleep schedule. I have not done much RP with other people but I do enjoy light RP on solo games so I will try to RP as much as the group wants to.
  • JidokwonJidokwon Member Posts: 397
How would 3pm - 6pm est daily work for you guys? Three hours is a decent block that we can probably feel like we accomplished something. If it's just the three of us, Karashi could probably do a good aligned thief of some sort and I could think of a party leader. I'm thinking a monk, perhaps, but then we'd be entirely dependent upon npc casters, which is fine, unless Karashi did a dual or multi class thief.

I haven't played multiplayer before. How do you want to handle deaths? Reload or resurrect? As it's our first run together, I'd like to keep it pretty simple. Normal difficulty and unmodded probably. I wouldn't mind doing an insane run, but max hit points and learning spells safely is pretty nice. If I'm playing a caster, I'd like to use autopause. In single player games, I've clicked all options for autopause, but that might be annoying in multiplayer. Still, I'd rather a few extra pauses than needless deaths. What do you think?
  • KarashiKarashi Member Posts: 38
Right on, looks like I have a buddy that will be down to play and 3-6pm looks like it will work for him as well. And ya, I will prob want to play a multi or dual fighter/thief of some sort. As far as autopauses go I agree they would be nice with some things like char almost dead or detected traps. But with everyone in the party controlling only one char you don't really need to micromanage nearly as much as you would in single player game and needless pausing can get a bit annoying in the long run.
  • JidokwonJidokwon Member Posts: 397
I'm going to go with a monk then. Any idea what you're friend will play? A healer and two arcane types would be ideal. If he wants to go with a fighter type, I'll roll a caster instead.
  • KarashiKarashi Member Posts: 38
He said he will roll anything that is needed.
  • JidokwonJidokwon Member Posts: 397
OK, monk created. I unchecked all of my autopauses except enemy sighted, injured, and traps. I'm going to get a new game started and wait in permissions before logging in. We'll save a slot for Darek and can recruit the casters. Your friend is welcome to play anything he wants. I'm Jidokwon Shidoshi in Skype, if you want to use that, and my player name is Jidokwon. Heh so is my monk's, so I'm not the most original...
  • JidokwonJidokwon Member Posts: 397
OK, started the game with our time in description, player name is Jidokwon. Two more joined, one making a dragon disciple and another making a fighter/cleric. Will log in at 3pm.

That sounds good. It was pretty short notice today. Let's shoot for a fresh game tomorrow then.

Sorry for the delay, my gf has been sick this weekend and I’ve been busy with her.
I think for fluid gameplay reasons we should just keep moving forward, if someone dies we revive them and if they perm die then they make a new character and rejoin, and no or minimal autopause (just for found trap or enemy sighted for example). You can use the built in cheats on your new char to add exp to where your character was if you perm die. Normal unmoded was the plan, I don’t use mods.

I’m not sure a fighter/thief would be very useful, in that most fighter abilities are canceled by being a thief too and any advantages you gain from being fighter/thief such as more armor options disables your thieving abilities and a constant find traps is useful, and if I’m already a fighter and Jidokwon a monk then we’re pretty covered on the melee front. Also you’ll gain levels much slower as multiclass, making your thiefness (which is whats most beneficial here) less useful. If you want a strong melee thief, I recommend the swashbuckler. Those can be pretty tough with their dualweapon style, and they take no hit to number of thief abilities per level. In BG2 there’s an infinite +3 arrow shortbow which is good for ranged thieves too. And in both games you get great armor for thieves later on.

I think what Jidokwon was implying was that you dual or multi as a cleric or mage but I wouldn’t push that on you for the same reasons. Single focus classes are most useful in their area after all. And mages aren’t that necessary, with various weapons and arrows on our nonmages. The one thing I keep them for in singleplay is for Identify, which they can do at first level so one can start a char as a human mage then dualclass right away to make them a cleric or something. What does your friend want to play? A cleric would be useful, I typically have 2 clerics in a group incase one dies the other can revive.

Yes, let’s use Skype to coordinate. We have 4 so far, and maybe one more who PMed me but hasn’t replied with a confirmed character or anything yet. I’d like to start with a full group of 6 if we can. Sunday’s and Wednesday’s from 3PM-5PM EST don’t work for me because I game with another group at that time. Your suggested 3-6PM EST is good for me on mon-fri (except for wed). If we try to set a same time every week something could come up and I’d have to miss the game (my other group is okay with me missing games once in a while) so I’d prefer to just set a next game day after each game so there’s more room for sudden plans.

I'd also like to join. While I haven't completed BG and BG 2, I did play it quite a bit when it first came out a long time ago. I have both BG:EE and BG2: EE, so I'm good to go.

I play mainly a Cavalier (Paladin Kit) (Or Archer if I'm too much a coward to face enemies head on, lol.), I have Skype if you want to communicate. Just send me a PM if you have room, eh?
  • Darek_DeathDarek_Death Member Posts: 56
I believe there is still room @DragonLS‌ and a high charisma char like your Cavalier would be perfect for the leader position if you'd like it. I don't think you'll have too much trouble with the enemies. Send me your Skype and I will add you to the group chat.

I am now free on Wednesdays also, I quit that group.

Being the leader shouldn't be too much of a problem, I think. I sent you my skype via private message.
  • KarashiKarashi Member Posts: 38
Looks like we have five people now and we appear to have a pretty good group composition lined up. My friend is notorious for never being able to decide what he wants to play so he usually just rolls whatever is needed for stuff like this. Which in this case it looks like he will prob be rolling a healer as long as we don't get another person who wants to, unless he wants to roll a thief in which case I can roll heals, which I don't mind.

I can't say I agree with the Fight/thief not being useful, while it is true he will level a bit slowly he will gain extra dmg and thaco but honestly the extra apr he will get from his fighter half alone will make him stronger then any normal thief while still having the ability to backstab. Besides you don't need that much thieving points to do what is needed in bg. Hell it is perfectly viable to use imoen as a groups only thief straight thru TOB and she is only a lvl 7 thief, so long as we don't try to rush Durlags tower straight from the gate I should be able to cover all thiefyness that we will need.

Looking forward to when this group finally gets rolling, I'll pm you my skype name now before I forget.
  • Darek_DeathDarek_Death Member Posts: 56
Yeah I got your Skypes via PM, I'm in bed atm via phone so I will add you tomorrow and we can discuss a game time. Would you guys be interested in a conference call during gameplay? Ive tried both text only and voice chat multiplayers and voice seems to work better than typing for me.

Sounds better than I thought it was @Karashi‌. Thank you for the insight about the bonus dmg and thac0 on level up. Go for it (I wouldn't limit anyone anyway I was just phishing for discussion and insight like you just gave; I enjoy talking about and learning new strategies and stuff about the game) now I kinda wanna see you in action. :)

I think using a voice chat for the game would probably make things easier as far as communication goes, though i don't mind if someone prefers to use the text option instead if they prefer. But instead of using a skype conference call would you guys mind coming to a vent channel I have access to? That way we can talk when we want to and not have 5 peoples background noise constantly going on while we are playing.
