Don't worry, you don't know how much time I spent farming Ankhegs and Wyverns in BG1:EE to reach level 16 as a Swashbuckler solo.

Try installing SCS - I think there is something that negates the cloak of mirroring and you are forced to fight beholders/gauths straight up

    Welcome to the forum.

Farming is not considered an 'Exploit', at least not by most. There are various places where you can do that in both games. Some might consider it Cheese, but if you are having fun at it? Go for it. It's your game. Make the most of it in any way that makes you enjoy the game.

It's all about how you want to play the game. Higher levels obviously means that later battles will be easier. It depends on how much of a challenge you are personally looking for. I usually enjoy feeling over powered. I am supposed to be the child of a god after all.

I think it should be considered an exploit.
Why? Because in the setting there aren't "infinite" monsters. And you're exploiting the game's AI by spawning infinite monsters.

The other problem is challenge. If you keep leveling up, everything becomes much easier and less challenging.
And a game without a challenge is not fun. It's boring.

You could just use the console or EEKeeper and get the levels.

It still comes down to what HE finds fun. To a lot of people a game without challenges is still fun. He COULD EEKeeper and get those levels, but if he still had fun in the process, what is the problem.

Case in point: I have a friend who has never played through the "Grand Theft Auto" series without putting in every cheatcode at the start of each game. I find that incredibly boring, but it seems to work for him.

I understand that but he asked if it was an exploit. Which means that he cared if he was exploiting the game.

In my opinion, he does. If he's having fun either way, it's up to him to do as he pleases.

To me, it's an exploit. There shouldn't be an infinite amount of mobs, and they should try stealing your cloak or something even if there were.

But if you're having fun, go for it. That's the golden rule.
  • the_spyderthe_spyder Member Posts: 5,018
The point is there isn't an infinite amount of MOBS. Because the player will not sit there till doomsday killing them. They kill a finite amount. It's just that the player chooses what that finite amount is, I.e. based on their tolerance of how long they care to do it.

In ToEE, you can theoretically go to the Deklo grove and squat, killing an endless wave of mobs until you level up to maximum. That's a perfectly valid way to play the game. I may not enjoy doing it, but then I don't in my game. If someone does, it's not an exploit. It is a valid play style.

I take it that the OP asked the question, not because they had any strong views on the topic, but simply because they were curious as to what came back. Leastwise that is how I took it. So, if they are having fun, where's the harm? It's not like they are CTRL - 'Q' or whatever that command is that automatically kills anything. That, to me is an exploit. But then again, if someone enjoys that? Why not?

@the_spyder‌ It's CTRL+Y, friend spyder. The most evil cheat code in existence.

I generally stop myself from using it, but I always know it's there. Watching. Waiting. Dun dun dun.

Well, the CTRL + Y command is a pure cheat, not an exploit.

For example an exploit would be a dialogue option that wasn't updated and kept giving you 500 gold as a reward as long as you kept clicking on it.

Technically, it gives you infinite gold because you keep click the option as much as you want.

It's the same thing here. Exploiting the AI to spawn endless groups of enemies for virtually infinite xp.
And it would be infinite because they're endless and there's no limit.

Sure it can be fun playing games with exploits, glitches and/or cheats and there's nothing bad about it if you're having fun. But they still are exploits, glitches and cheats, nonetheless.

Farming is not an exploit. In ANY game. An xp loophole would be, on the other hand.
  • WebShamanWebShaman Member Posts: 490
Farming is ALWAYS (exception: Outer Planes) an exploit - it is an exploit of the game engine/AI. As has been mentioned, there are not "infinite" monster X in any given area of Faerun.

One possible way out would be some sort of monster generator (that converts magical energy into monster X, or just gates them in from alternate Prime Plane realities, of which there are infinite amounts).

In this case, the Gaunts are not gated in, nor is there some sort of magical generator creating them. So it is definitely an exploit of the game engine.

The Outer Planes, on the other hand, could theoretically have infinite number of monster X, as each plane is basically infinite.
