Find Familiar bug still present.

I have the most current version of Baldur's Gate EE for Mac (version 1.2). I am having an issue with my saves. When I load my saves, my main character is either dead or with very low HP and a Constitution penalty. I have read multiple threads on forums about this issue and it seems that the problem is with the Find Familiar spell. This would make sense because my main character is a mage and I recently did cast this spell. However, this bug was supposed to have been fixed in the latest patch. My software is currently up to date so I don't know what to do. Is anyone else still experiencing this problem? Anyone have a solution for me? I would really appreciate any help because the game is currently unplayable.

Not an issue - when your familiar dies, you permanently lose 1 point of constitution, and when it reaches 0, you die.
Solution: keep your familiar in your backpack at all times. That way you don't have to worry about it draining you and can still enjoy the bonus hitpoints.

If you have low HP use CTRL+R and done, you'll need to enable the console to do this anyway.

Loub, how do you put your familiar in your backpack? Maybe this is an obvious question but I tried it and I don't know how it works. Thanks so much for your help.

And CrevsDaak, CTRL+R and done? What do you mean by "done"? Perhaps I'm a bit ignorant with the finer points of this game. I appreciate your help.

Interacting with your familiar is just like talking to an NPC. Use your talk button on him and a menu will come up.

You will get healed until max HP and dispel all the effects, which should fix this if you survive loading the save.

The issue with this spell was that permanent health drops (like the one for losing a familiar) had no way of remembering that their damage had already been applied when the game was saved and loaded.

I think this was fixed, but those saved games that were made before the patch would still have this problem on the first time they were loaded and saved again.

If your character is dead on load you could edit the save file with EEKeeper (or attach it to this thread and ask someone else to do it) so that they survive the damage for that first session.
