FIghter/mage

I have played through BGEE with a fighter mage that I dual-classed at level 3 and now exported to BGEE2. I have the following stats:

Str 19
Dex 18
Con 18
Int 19
Wis 5
Cha 15

Profiency slot: Long bow 4, Long sword 2, Quarterstaff 1

In BGEE I only used him as an archer/mage.

For BGEE2 I would like to use him as primarily an archer/mage unless that is a total waste. Would it be better to start a new character and dual him at level 7/9/13? and will he be useful as an archer or should I focus on other melee? Also is it possible in BG2EE to dual into a specialist mage?

/Thanks!

1.) While dual classing at level 3 is fine in BGEE, it's quite low in BG2EE but entirely possible to play with.

2.) Archer's aren't as good in BG2EE as they are in BGEE. So you'll probably want to place some points in a melee weapon as well. Your spells should be able to carry you through just about everything in the game, so your fighter skills are a bonus, not a must have.

3.) I would advice you to dual class at level 9 to gain the last fighter HP. While 13 is a little bit better when it comes to damage, it's just not worth the wait to regain your levels unless you're playing solo or with a small party.

4.) You can't dual class into a specialist mage in BG2EE.

If your only reason to restart and dual at 7, 9 or 13 would be to be a viable archer in BG2, then you would be best off dualling at level 13. It's the most powerful Fighter->Mage build, since it gives you full fighter HP, extra 1/2 APR at levels 7 and 13, and good Thac0 while still allowing you to reach level 28 as a mage to get the maximum number of spells (mage levels beyond 28 are worthless).

If the archery is going to be really secondary in your style of play (as magic is generally more effective), then I wouldn't bother with wating till Fighter level 13, and opt for level 9 or even level 7, because I really dislike the downtime involved in dualclassing.

No, you can't dual into a specialist mage, you can dual from a fighter kit if you want, Berserker->Mage is a very good combination.
I would say that you can change the Long Bow proficiencies to Short Bow, Long Sword is still boss and you can get the Staff of the Magi and the Staff of the Ram in BG2.
Another thing I would recommend is maxing Long Swords at Five points and then spen three points in Two Weapon Style, if you want to make a change I recommend using .

And if bows are your thing, as mentioned above, Short bows for bg2. You'll be hamstrung late game if not.

Are there any other advantages with a beserker apart from rage? I've rolled a 18/99 strength with my current plain fighter mage and focused on long sword, plus a couple of points for the long bow (still quite fond of bows when disrupting mages etc.) or is that a waste?

A ranged weapon is never a waste. And the Berserkers Rage is incredible powerful. You won't 'need' it but it's very very good.

Rage is great as it makes you inmune to lots of things instead of relying on buffs or items. It also makes you inmune to imprisonment which can get very handy

And let's not forget that annoying level drain.
