Displayed To-Hit Rolls

When to-Hit rolls are turned on in the feedback menu, the first number is the roll to attack. But where does the second number come from? I don't think it's AC, is it bonuses/penalties due to armor type of the target? But it seems to be different for each character. Is it just bonuses/penalties to base THAC0? Anyone know? This is driving me crazy. (It looks like 16 + 3 = Hit : I mean the second number there)

Its the bonus or penalty you have to your roll based on your thac0 bonuses/penalties (strength, dexterity for missiles, weapon proficiency, weapon type vs enemy's armor type, etc).

A roll of a 1 will always miss even if your bonus would have increased it enough to hit. A roll of a 20 will always hit even if your penalty would have decreased it enough to miss.

Awesome thanks! I thought it was something like that, but I wasn't totally sure and I couldn't find any documentation on it.

@Lunar: Tyvm for your full treatment. Was never quite sure just what the numbers were re -"not having Melee Weapon equipped"

One thing I noticed as well is that some things are not counted in the second number, for example blindness. My character was fighting an invisible stalker, and on one swing a 14 total was a hit. Then, after being blinded, that same 14 was a miss. It seems that conditions like that modify the base THAC0, rather than any bonuses or penalties.
