I killed commander Vai after returning from Nashkel and not even priest bribes work! Any help?

I AM THE LAW! Damn I hate those guys.

Anyway, I didn't know I was supposed to have over 5 rep when returning from Nashkel. WHen I went to meet Via she attacked me and I had to kill her. Now the fists hunt me down no matter what and not even bribes help any.

I really don't want to start over - and my last save is 12 gameplay hours back. I got too reliant on auto and quick save.

Is there any way I can remedy this?

    Try donating at a temple.

There are many quests in wilderness areas where you're less likely to be attacked. The western Cloudpeaks area has two (Dryad and dead cat though the rep gain for the latter might depend on CHA or current rep), the Lighthouse Area has one (killing Worgs for the woman in the south). In the FAI area you can kill hobgoblins for Joia. So that's four in total. In Drizzt's area you can kill a couple of half-ogres for Bjornin and when you return to Bjornin in the Jovial Juggler you'll get another +1 rep. That would be +5 in total, which I think is enough to get the Fist off your back. Not sure if you've already done those quests?

Also, do you know how much you need to pay at temples for your rep to go up? I think it's in the game guide, but you could also look here.

I got my rep all the way back up to popular, and I am still getting attacked. I killed Commander Vai - she attacked me.

Any guards that saw you while your rep was that low and went agro, will remain agro until you kill them, even if your rep is no longer that low. I had a game like that where I literally couldn't enter Nashkal anymore because all of the Flaming fist patrolling down main street would KOS my entire party. It's a PITA, but there it is.

Personally, I would like to see it implemented that, in that situation, a charm or Friends spell would reset the agro to neutral and then do a rep check. Alas, if wishes were horses.

Try hitting them with a Sleep spell. That should work. They'll still be hostile but they at least will be prevented from shooting at you.

What level are you? If you are strong enough you could consider just going the brutal evil route :)

The mob of Flaming Fist Battle Wizards are really not that difficult to take out. If you're high enough level it will be like cutting grass.

Isn't that true of anything? If you are high enough level, 'So and so' is easy to kill?

Just as a side note, it is possible to play the game in such a circumstances where there simply are places that you can't go anymore. so long as you don't turn all of Baldur's Gate against you, it simply adds a level of difficulty.

In the game I played, I would enter Nashkal from the north, where you get dropped behind some houses, and then have the party mage cast invisibility on my party leader. He would then go into town and wait till no guards were around before initiating dialogue. Then he would make sure he was out of site (either via hide in shadows or invis potion) before the guards came back. It actually made things quite fun and challenging.
