HELM AND CLOAK

in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
hi all
in second floor of "HELM AND CLOAK", two guards are blocking my path.
i can kill them without losing any reputation and continue forward!
my question is this:
will they clear the path at a certain point of the story? or killing them is the only option to gain access to this part of the inn?

    Erm ... so far as I recall, they never go away, although I think you can sneak a character past them with stealth or invisibility, if you merely want to explore. However, I always just provoke an argument in dialogue with them, which lets me kill them without loss of rep when they attack.

    You won't be able to sneak past them, at least not in BGEE.

    Talk to them enough times will result in a fight.
    You could always charm them and move them away.

    Aha, thanks for the correction @Balquo. I was basing it on a vague recollection, which might well have related to the original BG1 rather than EE.
