Multiplayer Mac & Steam

A bunch of my friends just bought BG2EE for windows in the steam sale and we thought we might replay through it.

I have a mac though, and as there is no steam version of BG2EE for mac I wanted to know, if I purchase the BeamDog mac version, is it possible for me to play with my friends despite them having the steam version and me the mac version?

I read somewhere else here on the forum that it works as both use the BeamDog servers, but I want to make sure before I open my wallet.

Thanks!

They'll work together, as long as their version numbers match. In BGII:EE, you can find the version number from the main "Options" screen during play (and the 1.3 patch will add it to the start-up screen).

Just in case this is useful to anyone, it is possible to play BG2EE multiplayer between Mac and Steam, but we had to use Protocol: TCP/IP settings and connect directly to the host's IP through Hamachi as multiplayer will crash over the BeamDog servers. There were four of us in 4 separate locations.

Also my Mac copy of the game was purchased directly from BeamDog (not the AppStore).
