What is the problem with dual wield (a.k.a. 2 weapons), in EE?

I tried to start a new character, while figuring how to import mine from the originals. But i was in for an ugly surprise... Both my most popular/overused characters, berserker and beastmaster, could not go over 2 points in 2 weapons proficiency... I am pretty sure (checked it right now again), that in the original 2, they can get all three points in this fighting style just fine! What is wrong, here? Somebody, please, do explain!

When you create a character in the second game, you are atleast level 7 which means you can assign more than 2 pips in a selected proficiency which isn't the case in the first game. Anyway putting 3 points into dualwielding at level 1 shouldn't be a good choice.

I understand. But this was my plan all along. Full dual wield, 1 pip into my main weapon of choice, and keep raising that one as i would level. Hmmm, ok, i think i understand. Thank you.

With 1 pip in your selected weapon and 3 pips in dual wield :

    2APR +0 damage +0 Thac0 -2 thac0 offhand.

With 2 pips in your weapon and 2 pips in dual wield :

    2.5 APR +2 damage +1 thac0 -4 thac0 offhand.

It's a bit superior, though not gamebreaking.

BG2 didnt follow the actual rules... cant Master at lvl 1, just specialize. 5 pips in one weapon wasnt really good in vanilla, but it let you play that way. Bg2 should have capped you at 4 pips in one prof when starting out.

huh. I always assumed it was better to get dualwielding sorted out first. I guess specialization does a lot though.

To be honest, it's a waste of a pip anyway.

To further this point, you don't even need points in a supplementary offhander like Belm, Kundane, Crom Fayr or Defender of Easthaven. Their passive benefits will effect you regardless and the real power comes from your main hand anyway.

@jackjack‌ well, a blade might want to take thst 3rd point, depending on his situation to boost unbuffed THAC0. Bit of a stretch though.
