I like it. It would add some more flavour to the generalist mage's that would be good to have. As long as it doesn't totally cancel out the advantage of playing a specialist mage. The mage kits were designed as a choose me for extra spells but you get this as a disadvantage. . . Just as a side note, all mages usually have access to these cantrips do they not? The first spells young wizards learn.
Great idea, some cantrips would actually be really fun to use if created for specific quest situations...for example when wanting a character to flee in terror because of ghosts, the whole haunting subset "creak, groan, moan, etc" would be great to play around with...i'm envisioning a whole little dialogue quest where you have to listen (or read) carefully to see what method would be most effective to raise the terror...but that's idling way from the initial point, i realise.
In general play, acid splash, ray of frost, flare, perhaps open and hide if you wish to encroach on thief skills for a bard, maybe buggery (childish snicker) as a far lesser version of insect swarm...just a few ideas to toss around....

Still! I'd love to see some of these in the game!
Say, Acid splash, 1d3 acid.
Resistance +1 resistance bonus.
That type of thing. Just a few basic VERRRY low power type things.
Anyway, thats my two cents!
Edit: Shame prestidigation would be useless. But fun. I could make Sarevok smell like bacon.
