One more thing I would like to point out: all the dog headed monsters are simple primitives(gnolls, kobolds) while the feline headed monsters are intelligent magic users. (Rakshasa)
Gnolls are hyena-headed, and hyenas are closer related to cats than to dogs :P
Still. Kobold(who are dog headed in 2e, or at least bg) and gnolls are often called dog-headed as well. They also make more dog like sounds than hyena or cat like sounds. Also, the big cats are far more powerful than wolves or wild dogs. (Magic wolves don't count) my point stands.
@Demonoid_Limewire Well, eating insects is no big deal - I once had a nasty surprise and ingested a roundworm, although I cannot tell more about it due to... explicit content. I'm sure you can try and piece out the details in your head. I wouldn't mind PMing about it if you're interested, though. Just let me know if you are.

I can't say I'm completely surprised.
