Handiest BG2EE Paladin?

Just kind of wondering for a playthrough. For a not particularly skilled player, what is the handiest paladin to play as charname in BG2EE? It seems the most frequent tough, annoying encounters are undead and mages. Undead Hunters are great against the former, Inquisitors against the latter. Or is there a strength to cavaliers I'm not thinking of?

Probably the biggest strength for cavaliers is that they can withstand horror spells (immune to fear) and then cast "Remove Fear" on their panicking party members.

Cavaliers may not have any single, outstanding bonuses like the other paladin kits do, but they have a lot of smaller bonuses that, collectively, can be very useful over the course of an entire game.

I would say the handiest paladin is probably a tie between the blackguard and the inquisitor.

Cavaliers are great, like SharGuidesMyHand already said their resistance to horror spells and attacks is very useful which makes them the best class, at least in my opinion to go up against demons and dragons.

I prefer Cavaliers. They don't have a single exceptional bonus, but their only limitation is not using ranged weapons, which is not much of a disadvantage. Put on the Amulet of Power, and you get the biggest Undead Hunter advantage as well.

But they can still use azure edge, which is quite handy against undead anyway, thus psuedo solving one problem.

The big thing I like about cavaliers, is that with their build in resistance, its really easy to get OVER 100 fire resist, so if you start going fireball crazy, your cavalier actually heals from the bombardment. I also like a cavalier for flavor reasons and the fact that they don't give up Lay On Hands or priest spells.

I think my runner up would be undead hunter, simply for the level drain immunity early on. And while you can't use lay on hands, you DO still get your full range of possible priest spells. This means that along with your cleric (assuming you use mace of disruption or amulet of power), you can have 2-3 people completely immune to level drain and 2 of them who can cast restoration to cure others.

I would (for RP reasons): start longsword and (blunt weapon of your choice) and likely crossbow although that'll be a pain to change. Obviously, Bastard Sword, Two Handed Sword and Spear (ya gotta have stakes!) would be added later.

Great now I have ANOTHER run through for this game.

Inquisitor is devastating in SoA and ToB, but his abilities are less useful in vanilla bgee.

Cavalier however frontloads, being incredibly good in the first game.

Blackguard is great the whole game, but likely is surpassed by inquisitor in ToB.

Undead Hunter is very handy to tank vampires in SoA, but BG1 has all of 1 Revenant for serious undead... but he'd be good against Ghasts I'd expect.

It's true you don't fight a lot of undead in BG1, especially not in comparison. But you do face a decent ish number. I wouldn't feel like my +hit/damage is going to waste against them. I guess because I view Undead Hunter in a similar vein to a Ranger in that regard.

    Blackguard
The rest of the lot are insufferable goody two-shoes.

Well, if I'm actually "playing evil", which is rare, I'm gonna take Dorn along, and I just don't think I could make a cooler Blackguard ;)

Double-team Blackguards. The unholy union of evil and sarcasm. 2 Blackguards and Edwin. . . :P

CaloNord, there's actually a nice piece of party banter between Edwin and Dorn if you bring them both.
