A Question About Converting Mods

This is probably going to seem like an odd question, since I don't know how many people stick to old-school BG. But I asked this over in the Wings discussion, then decided I may as well post it here.
I prefer old-school BG I and II over EE. I probably always will. That said, I've seen some very good EE-only mods (such as the More Style For Mages mod) that I'd love to be able to play on BGII.
Now, I don't know much about modding, but I do know that the differences between BGII and EE engines meant every mod for the former had to be converter to the latter. Does this still hold true for the reversed--that is, would an EE mod have to be converted into BGII style to be playable on old-school, or could you just install as is?
