The odds of lightning striking?

Everyone I know tells me that they've either never experienced being hit by lightning during a storm, or that they've only been hit once or twice. However, lately the frequency of lightning bolts hitting characters - be it my characters, enemies or simple critters - seems to have skyrocketed in my game.
Earlier today, I was fighting the Belt Fetishist Ogre south of the Friendly Arm Inn. As I was about to finish it off, lightning struck it and stole my kill. "Fair enough" I thought to myself, and moved in to collect my loot...When lightning struck the corpse of the aforementioned ogre. I figured it would be safe now, and moved in to collect the loot again........When lightning struck me as I was doing so. I healed up, and was about to move on...When lightning struck somewhere behind me, a bit to the right of the ogre's corpse. Immediately after this, lightning struck again and almost killed my familiar.
As if five consecutive lighting bolts in a single area wasn't enough, lightning actually struck and killed Tethtoril in the Candlekeep prologue just now. It counted as me doing the deed, and I ended up being murdered by Phlydia as I was about to give her book back to her.

...So what are the odds of being struck by lightning supposed to be? (On Core difficulty, if that matters)

Under options, I uncheck the box that says "weather". Problem solved. I turn the weather off.
Yeah, that's probably a good idea. I play minimal reload as well, and it's getting a tad frustrating to get screwed over every time a storm starts.

Just in case you didn't know, no offense if you did. I'm just trying to be helpful:)
And no, not using any mods. No mods that should influence lightning, anyway. (Portraits from BGPaint and some voice sets from Icewind Dale only. I tried out Sword Coast Stratagems once, but I have since uninstalled it properly and completely.) Once, it struck me immediately after I killed a Hobgoblin, and it almost killed me. Then it struck again right next to me and killed an innocent squirrel. Looks like Talos heard the rumour about the Ring of Luck too.
Talos has also saved me from a few wolves, only to almost kill me with the same lightning immediately afterwards. What a swell guy.
Oh yeah, and once it randomly struck that kid over by the raided caravan north of Beregost. I wasn't there when it happened, but it showed up in my log. It confused me, because I had never even heard of the kid back then. I should, shouldn't I? Bit problematic when the Stormlord frames me for murder in Candlekeep though.
...If only I could have replicated the bug I once experienced where I somehow moonwalked through the walls of Candlekeep.
