The ease of use mod is one I'd recommend, not every component perhaps but the bugfixes alone are very welcome, and some changes it makes seem fair (for example, giving the game decent bastard swords where there were none before). You can also download a bonus merchant mod to bring Ribald Barterman to Targos (though he looks like a human now, and all his stuff is really expensive).
I've yet to proceed past chapter 3 in IWDII, but I've started it 4 times! I hope this current time will be the last.
I would recommend playing it Vanilla style first, but if you really need to use mods, I would recommend @Almateria 's Fixpack for IWD2, it includes the some of the fixes from Ease of Use as well as random fixes across the internet, IWD2 NPC Project gives you NPCs that can talk to you, Ease of Use for the other stuff Almateria's mod doesn't cover, and IWD2 Tweak Pack.
There is a great deal of options, so its tempting to try new things. I liked how skills were valuable, but not mandatory, and generally like 3rd ed. Could have used some prestige classes though, and 3.0 ranger is really crummy. Bard is bad too, but less so. If the regeneration worked continuoisly, it'd make bards very valuable.
Some fights are truly ridiculous in HoF mode, but my Cleric of Bane could usually be counted upon to hit groups with mass domination. His Wis modifier was so high it actually worked even at the Hand. The last ambush by the Red Wizard was like fighting a tank brigade with a sharp stick though.
Hi, I've finished BG1 EE, BG2 EE, SoD and IWD EE (yes, I'm a good customer ) - and decided to play Icewind Dale 2 (GOG version). I can't stand it's interface though. Is there any mod that makes it look like in previous games? Also - how to turn on/off scripts?
PS. If Beamdog ever makes IWD2 EE, please, please, please make an option to switch to BG1-style interface.
