"Divine Sorcerers" and multiclassing restrictions on new classes

One class that I always wanted to try but that was never modded in perfectly (though workable half-measures exist) is a divine caster that can cast without memorizing, like a Sorcerer. 3E introduced a "Divine Champion" class that does pretty much that. Its a new class I'd really like to see in DLC or perhaps BG2;EE, and I feel its different and unique enough to warrant basing an entire new NPC around. I hope others would agree this could be a fun idea. One could easily inspire themselves from the 3E class to design it, too. Like I assumed happened with the Blackguard.

Moreover, if this comes to pass, or even if it doesn't, I feel all new classes that have been added (like monks, sorcerers, barbarians, this) go underused because they cant be multiclassed at all. Given access to the source code, I think it should be possible now for Barbarians to be allowed to MC as if they were fighters, Sorcerers as if they were Mages, etc? Because thats definitely something I'd want to try.

I'm combining these two into one post because the character I always wanted to play the trilogy with but never could would be this elusive multi-class half-elven Sorcerer/Divine Champion. Make it happen and take my money ;)

I believe you are referring to the 3ed class "Favored Soul", which is basically a cleric that casts spells like a sorcerer would.

It is indeed called the Favored Soul. I think the Divine Champion is a 3e prestige class. If I recall correctly Blackguard existed in 2e but as an evil-only class it was prohibited from PCs as the standard rules required players to be good or neutrally aligned.

There are 2 problems I see with introducing the FS:
    1) As was said it is a 3e class, therefore Beamdog is probably prohibited from introducing it themselves.
    2) Some of the abilities for the FS are based on the favored weapon of their deity. In 2e they would have to code in the deity's 'favored weapon' list, which I believe includes weapons that don't exist in BG like scythes.

Sorcerer/mages whether as multiclass or dualclass makes no sense. A mage gets their magical power through hours of study and memorization. A sorcerer has a magic ancestor somewhere they lets them cast spells simply by force of will. I know you can do it in 3e but it's silly there too. You would have to have duplicate spellbooks since a spell you know as a mage you might not as a sorcerer... this is giving me a headache just thinking about it!

Oops my bad, I got confused. I meant Favored Soul, yes.

The class doesnt have to be a carbon copy of the 3E version or anything to do with special weapons, though. Just a divine sorceror, with particular ability to channel divine magic, yet with a narrower spell list.

And of course, I wasnt asking for Sorcerer/Wizards, just that Sorcerers be allowed to multiclass as a Wizard would. Ie, allow Fighter/Sorcerers or maybe even Barbarian/Sorcerers.

@Valmont In that case I withdraw my objections. :)
