Recently refound.

I was online the other day, when I came across a story that some one was redoing icewind dale for ipad, and I thought wouldn't it be cool if they redid baldurs gate. Needless to say I found this. Pure awesomeness. I've missed these sort of games.

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, but I had a few questions. Mostly about a character. Basically I'll be doing a human fighter9 / mage dual. That should get me 3* in two wep fighting and 4* in a weapon. Then several single pips in mage weapons. Can a fighter dual to a specialist mage? Also what weapon should I go for? Katana flail and hammer seem to be popular. I'm not sure I would want to master katana if there aren't any that are really usable at end game.

Anyways it's great to have these games back.

A fighter can't dual to a specialist mage in BGEE/BG2EE. There is a program called EE Keeper that you can use to change your mage into a specialist mage, though that may not be an option if you are looking to buy the game for the ipad.

Katana's are pretty hard to come by in BGEE though they did introduce a few. Your best bet when it comes to finding katanas tends to be ogre mages though there are a few specific ones that have been placed. Flails and hammers are also pretty safe choices.

That said you won't be able to dual from a level 9 fighter into a mage in BGEE unless you remove the level cap. Otherwise you'll have to do it in BG2EE and at that point getting access to stuff like katana's will be easier.

I picked up both of the games for ipad. Oh we'll this will be fun no matter what. I think I have decided on scimitar as a my main weapon as well, and I'm probably overthinking all. So I'm just going to go enjoy this.

Another heads up for the ipad is that patch 1.3 for BGEE will be hitting it hopefully in the next few days (its been released for all other platforms but apple has a slow approval process). So you may see some changes from that.

Also BG2EE for ipad hasn't been patched (even though its been like 9 months). So it may be kind of buggy. A patch is being worked on for all current platforms (as well as making the game work for android users).

Thanks for the info. Just rolled a fighter for the first game. I remember the old game being a bit buggy as well. Hopefully nothing breaking.

I definitely advise you to put 5 in a weapon and 2 in dual wielding. Since you can only dual from a kit and not into one I would suggest you to pick a Berserker or a Kensai and to dual into Mage.

I would be *very* surprised if you noticed anything more debilitating than a typo in bg1. Bg2... It's a game of chance. Bg2 has some decent bugs pop up now and then, especially on the iPad, but it's definitely playable. I wouldn't worry to much. I think the overall biggyness has decreased significantly since vanilla.

What about a berz5 Mage with mastery in quarter staff? Would that be viable throughout?
