Why I Won't Be Buying Future Overhaul Games

I bought both games, and I posted a criticism of BG2:EE today of the gay content in BG2:EE, which was removed by Dee, the forum administrator. I was told that criticism of gay content is hate speech and offensive (despite the fact that I was offended by the gay content), and that I'm simply in the wrong place. Conservative dollars don't matter here, despite the fact that a lot more of us are buying their games than gays buying their games. I am a paying customer being accused of falsehoods, threatened, and being told that what I think doesn't matter and isn't worthy of expression.

Overhaul, good luck, your editions are too "enhanced" for me.

I'm not for the rights nor against homosexuality, but let me tell you that time has passed and you have to accept it one way or the other--it's the society we live in these days. Maybe 156 years before burning down gays on a park was OK, as racism and slave trading was OK in those days, too.

BGII has gay content? Huh. Learn something new every day. Surprised I haven't noticed before considering how obviously in-our-face it is.

Also I won't be buying no more games from Beamdog because the games have slaves and I hate slave trading and it's something unacceptable and it's against the human rights and because I prefer killing the bloody prisoners instead of making them slaves.

    Hear hear!

It's okay Cornbread, because both of the homosexual romances in BG:EE are with evil characters. Beamdog agrees with you! They're double agents in the gay jihad!

I want to say the OP's probably still okay with Hexxat because lesbians are hot, but on the other hand, there's no option put her in a separate sidebar from all the white characters, and hmm, well, ah, that's just not something I can get behind as a conservative red-blooded American.

Ohhhh, right. Dorn and Hexxat I assume. No wonder I haven't noticed. I do have Hexxat in my party but being male, that one isn't likely to trigger. As for Dorn, I don't have him in the party on account of his recruitment mission just being an over-the-top-for-no-reason evil kill frenzy. Obviously it's content that doesn't cater to me in any way or form :P
  • It's a Canadian company. Perhaps my criticism of gay content is indeed hate speech north of the border. Americans make up most of their sales, though. As a southerner, I rarely if ever encounter someone in real life espousing the pro-gay viewpoints above. 2nd edition AD&D had no gay content. Gay themes factored heavily in the content written by Overhaul, with nearly every new party NPC being gay and meeting other gays. I do not approve. That is my rational opinion, which I am not alone in holding. Now I'm committing the crime of hate speech again. Extradite me to Canada for my hate speech trial.

Having played almost all the new content I can tell you're completely wrong.

Dorn is bisexual not gay. So screw that.

On a more serious side, there are just 3 characters (Dorn, Hexxat and Cabrina) whom are homosexual/bisexual, so I don't see the whole "OMG the game is plagued of homosexual help plz" thing.

    Edit: aaaand

    lesbians are hot.

  • My reason to stop buying the games is the censorship from Dee (and resulting horror at Dee Zedong's attitude towards future opinions which differ from his/her own) over this post: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/34456/iwd-ee-request-from-sieur-de-la-cornbread#latest

I want to express the opinion that I don't want more gay content added to IWD:EE. Even leftists should be opposed to censorship, right? Most of you probably still give lip service to the 2nd Amendment although you are beginning to question it. You can call me dumb or assume I am christian or whatever you like, but shouldn't we be allowed to criticize the game and influence future design choices? That's what I was prevented from doing.

I'm deeply offender because my character's clothes are coming in contact with robes of a different fabric... and the NPCs work on weekends. Some characters eat shellfish! These sins are far more troublesome to me.

Then again, I'm wondering if the OP is just trying to bait/troll/poe/etc.
  • Oh my, the word filth is hate speech? It seems I am unfamiliar with the bylaws of hate speech. Does this apply to the entire universe, or just Canada, or...?

As far as polytheism, I have registered no qualms in that department, have I? You are constructing a straw man in the absence of information.

No I'm just making fun of you.

And you're making me laugh out my entrails.
  • Since I don't accept a minority, it is acceptable to belittle my own minority (here) opinion. It's only the people we disagree with who are wrong and full of intolerable hate speech.
